Akufo-Addo giving Ghanaians dirty tap water to drink – Horace Ankrah

Ghana’s former Ambassador to China, Mr Horace Ankrah has accused President Nana Akufo-Addo of distributing dirty water to Ghanaians through their taps.

Mr Ankrah told Kwame Appiah Kubi on CTV’s Dwabre Mu morning show on Wednesday, 17 June 2020 that: “Let’s look at some of the things that this government said they would do for Ghanaians. Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia promised Ghanaians that in the first two years of their administration, every single home in this country will get running water, every single home in this country will get a toilet facility”.

“They’ve not done that. No water project. In their manifesto, was there anything promised on water? Yes. Have they been able to achieve those promises? No”, Mr Ankrah insisted.

Holding a bottle of water for the cameras, Mr Ankrah said: “Kwame, if the cameras can capture it, this is the kind of water the Ghanaian is drinking”.

“I fetched this water from my own office and if the President of this country is offering Ghanaians this sort of water to drink, whereas they have promised the Ghanaian running water and toilets in their first two years, [then they have failed]”, he said.

He dared the authorities to his area to verify the quality of tap water the residents there contend with.

“They should come to the area. You go to Lapaz, Achimota, and the rest to feel what the Ghanaian is feeling. This is the pipe-borne water that the Ghanaian is drinking. Look at that. I’m telling you the gospel truth and if you come to my office now and open the tap, this is what you’re going to get”, Mr Ankrah insisted.

“The corner I stay at Lapaz, this is the water you get. This is a failed government. I want to ask this government: Do you really know what the Ghanaian is feeling? Do you really know what you are giving the Ghanaian to eat or drink? This is the water”, he noted.

In October 2016, Dr Bawumia, who was then the running mate to Nana Akufo-Addo on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party, said their future government would embark on a massive infrastructure programme for poverty eradication in the rural areas of the in their first two years.

He noted that it will be engineered effectively through the $1-million-per- constituency programme.

“After the first two years, no village or community will have water or toilet problem,” Dr Bawumia assured Ghanaians at the launch of the party’s manifesto in Accra.
