I wish to bring to the attention of the minister in question that Parliament is not all about law as she seeks misleadingly to suggest in order to propagate her interest. It is utterly far from that!
For Hon Hajia Alima to suggest that she is a lawyer and that Parliament is all about the law is not only woefully inaccurate but also amounts to, either an expression of ignorance about the business of Parliament or that she is being insincere with the people of Nalerigu/ Gambaga constituency.
It is, in my estimation, an attempt to mislead the public! The Hon. Member is well aware that the august House of Parliament is made up of experts of diverse backgrounds and not only Law. These include the finance committee, Agric committee, security committee, economic planning committee, social services committee, political committee, public accounts committee and many others. Does one need to be a lawyer in order to function effectively, in the above-stated committees?
Even during the precolonial and colonial era, the colonial administrators, recognizing the wisdom bestowed in our revered chiefs, appointed them to form part of the legislative assemblies at the time in order to make not only laws but also formulate policies that inured to the effective functioning of the colonies. Law is just a component of Parliament and so should not be misconstrued to mean Parliament is all about law.
Parliament means a lot! If parliament were all about law, then the constitution which is more supreme than Hajia Alima should have provided that only lawyers should be qualified to go to parliament.
The constitution never provides this because one does not need to necessarily be a lawyer in order to function effectively in Parliament. The Hon minister should stop the deception and be honest for once! Her bid to perpetuate her stay in power should not cloud her professional knowhow or vision!
We have had distinguished parliamentarians who have never pursued law yet did their work very well that merited their continued stay in Parliament. We the NDC would not sit down to allow the Hon member, who doubles as the local government minister, to mislead the good people of Nalerigu/Gambaga constituency in east Mamprusi, from making a wise choice by voting for Hon Alhaji Baba Seidu Issifu come December 7. Alhaji Baba has all the needed expertise to function honourably to the administration if his constituent much more than what Hajia Alima is doing.
Long live Alhaji Baba!
Long live NDC!
