Baldwin College – Ghana: A vision of a Ghanaian abroad

Dr. Akwasi Achampong is known in his native Asante Bekwai in Ghana and the East Coast of the United States of America for his philanthropic spirit. He is a medical doctor by profession and a developer.

For some time now, he has channeled his energies into areas and projects that do not only benefit himself but the general Ghanaian population; prominent among them is the Baldwin College in Accra, Ghana.

In an exclusive interaction with the founder of Baldwin College – Ghana, Akwasi Achampong who is a Medical Doctor and doubles as a Pharmacist, Licensed Private Pilot, and an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine laid emphasis on the importance of education and the need to provide such platform for the people to learn, develop and harness their God-given potentials to support themselves, their families and nation building.

He said the magnitude of responsibility that belies such pressing call can hardly be met by the government. And it is for this reason that private individuals need to step in to help improve our educational system. It is out of this call to national duty that Baldwin College in Accra, Ghana came into existence, Dr. Achampong said.

Established in 2007, the college is strategically situated at Troas Street in Accra to enhance the easy reach of the institution by the general public. This unique college has employed the services of an educationist and civil rights activist, Professor James E. Kutz, as its president.

Some of the works of Prof. Kutz, a recipient of US presidential award, include the designing of the country-wide Secondary Girls Program in Bangladesh, a state-wide education program for the State of New York's Civil Service Employees Union, and the design and operation of the Saturation Approach to Learning Centers functioning in 117 countries and many US country-wide programs.

Since assuming office, he has drafted new curricula for Baldwin College. The wealth of Prof. Kutz’s knowledge and experience in the field of education is the reason why Baldwin College in Accra, Ghana is one of the fastest growing private institutions of higher learning in the country.

With a conducive learning environment, top-notch IT center, world class library facility and very well qualified instructors, it is a place that promotes critical thinking and analytical reasoning. Baldwin College is accredited by the Ghana National Accreditation Board and affiliated with the University of Cape Coast as well as Xavier Medical School in Aruba.

Baldwin College offers the following programs: BSc. Medical Laboratory Technology Diploma Medical Laboratory Certificate in Medical Assistant program and Institute of Commercial Management (ICM) – UK Programs

Baldwin is taking applications to admit students into various programs listed above for the 2016/2017 academic year. SSCE, WASSCE or its equivalent, and Matured students are encouraged to apply to be part of an institution that “Invest, Invigorate, and Impact” on its students for the future.
