Black Princesses target quarter-finals of 2018 Women's World Cup

Ghana coach Yussif Basigi has set sights on a quarter-final berth when his side grace the 2018 Fifa Under-20 World Cup in France next month.

The Black Princesses are hoping to make the knockout round for the first time, having failed in all four previous attempts.

This year, the West Africans will battle it out with the hosts, as well as New Zealand and the Netherlands in Group A.

“We’re really hoping to make it [next round] this time. That’s our objective," Basigi told Fifa.com.

“I’m pleased with the qualifiers we had.

"We’re hoping to keep the momentum going in France and to play as we did in the qualifying competition.

"Nigeria [Africa's second representatives for this year's gathering] scored fewer goals than us.

"I wouldn’t say that we’re better, but it has to be said that our statistics are a little better than theirs.”

Ghana will open their competition against France on August 5.

“As the tournament hosts, France will have the support of their fans," Basigi remarked.

"It’s going to be a tough match and we’ll try to prepare for it in the best possible way.

"Our objective is still to get out of the group though.”

After their opener, the Black Princesses face the Netherlands on August 8 before rounding off the group exercise against New Zealand four days later.

Basigi's side are set for a pre-tournament training camp in Spain.
