Ghanaians may have observed that President Akufo-Addo’s addresses with regards to updates on the state of the country as far as the global pandemic is concerned, usually come between the hours of 9 pm and 10 pm.
Deputy Information Minister Pius Enam Hadzide has cleared the air on the phenomenon.
According to him broadcasts on the Coronavirus situation in the country during such hours are intended to achieve a certain effect.
Explaining further, Pius noted that the President’s busy schedules during this period are a primary source of obstruction although he would have loved to do the broadcasts early.
“…the President’s schedule around this time, on this COVID, you have no idea. Sometimes, he is sitting in meetings until late and he’s able to interact with us.
“Those broadcasts at the times they are broadcast also communicates in itself.
“It’s not like they were recorded days or hours before. So, it’s not a major problem,” he stated.
The President’s addresses which have been pre-recorded so far has raised concerns as to why it is aired at such odd hours.
But defending the stance on Metro TV, the Deputy Information Minister averred that: “If you ask me, the timing is just right. When my advice is sought, I will put it at a time which is not ordinary… [so] everybody will know that we are not in ordinary times. I think that doing it in the evening, nine o’clock thereabout is fine.”
Since recording the first case of the fast-spreading Coronavirus, President Akufo-Addo has given five addresses to the citizenry, giving updates on measures the government is employing to curtail the devastating effect of the viral disease.
The broadcast messages are usually aired between 9 pm and 10 pm.
