Disagreeing with the False Characterisation and "Akanization" of NPP

Wed, 12 Mar 2014 Source: Adofo, Rockson

?

My disagreement with those tagging NPP as the Akans party is airtight. Anyone going by the view that NPP is the Akans or the Ashantis party is as erroneous as their brains need attending by neurologists.

?

The simple fact that many Ashantis or Akans subscribe to the policies of the NPP; affiliate themselves with the party, in itself or per se, does not justify the devious characterisation of NPP as the Akans party by some dubious characters in the Ghanaian society.

?

Could the NDC be equally characterised as the Ewe/Ayigbe and the Northerners party? Are these two groups of tribes not voting predominantly the NDC at national elections? If we cannot justify calling the NDC as Ewe/Northerners party, how justified are we then, as hypocrites as we do appear, to address the NPP as the Akans or the Ashantis party?

?

What a reverse psychology? Those in the NDC in their evil attempts to perpetuate office for good or for longer have devised a means to embarrass the Akans by letting them feel guilty somehow. They have come out to ridicule their association with the NPP in order to get them rather vote for the NDC in their majority.

?

What a clever ploy by this bunch of schoolboys/schoolgirls or trainee politicians to prop their position in government or in the political arena? Is the Akan tribe not the biggest in terms of numbers when all tribes in Ghana are grouped in number wise? Out of the ten geopolitical regions in Ghana, (Upper West, Upper East, Northern, Brong-Ahafo, Ashanti, Central, Western, Eastern, Volta and Greater Accra), the most highly populated five with the exception of Greater Accra, are all Akans. They are Ashanti, Brong-Ahafo, Central, Eastern and Western regions. There are even some Akans in the Volta region e.g. the Akans/Nkonyas.

?

The fact that the majority of citizens from the five Akan regions affiliate with the NPP does not authorise anyone to categorise NPP as shamefully the Akans party. If it is the Akans party by their warped perception, so be it. Why should people feel guilty and fall for the NDC’s mischief-intent plan to cause division within the NPP?

?

If the NDC is ready to accept being the Ewe/Northerners party, then NPP will gladly accept being the Akans party. Will you spare a second to familiarise yourself with the ethnic composition of Ghana as indicated below?

?

Ethnic groups:

Akan 47.5%, Mole-Dagbon 16.6%, Ewe 13.9%, Ga-Dangme 7.4%, Gurma 5.7%, Guan 3.7%, Grusi 2.5%, Mande-Busanga 1.1%, other 1.6% (2010 census).

?

Do we not have some people from the other tribes listed above in both parties (NPP and NDC) but in different percentages? Has NPP put in place policies and regulations that debar non-Akans from joining the party let alone, holding Executive positions within the party? If there are no such proven policies, then people are wrong to allege the NPP is "Akanfo3" party.

?

In any liberal society, one has the right to join any legal political party or association of their choice without constraints. If a group of persons or tribes decide to join one party in their greater numbers, should we condemn that party and assign it to the gallows? No!

?

A few people in Ghana from the various tribes with Akan inclusive, in pursuance of their insatiably greedy and egoistic agenda, have come out to run down the NPP with that absurd characterisation of NPP as an Akan party. Are you not aware how these NDC people have ganged up to subjugate the Akans, especially, the Ashantis in work places? Are they not practising positive discrimination against the Ashantis during recruitment into the public services e.g. the security forces (police, army, air force and Bureau of National Security)? I do not have to repeat myself here as I have already published articles on these evil machinations by the NDC to render the Ashantis impotent in their own country of birth.

?

I invite people to not feel ashamed of that mischievous characterisation intended to propel them to question their association with the NPP. Until individuals from other tribes come out to inform the public with proof that they have been denied NPP membership for being non Akans, hoot at those that propagate the falsehood that NPP is mainly for the Akans.

?

The NDC, their agents and assigns, want to continue to win national elections, of course fraudulently, by resorting to this nonsensical characterisation of NPP as an Akan party. By so doing, little-minded persons without the sophistication to detect the real motive of the adversaries of the NPP will either feel ashamed identifying with the party, or will simply be put off.

?

Please be wise as the serpent to not allow the NDC to cause division within the NPP.

?

I am sorry to have starved you of the overflowing fountain of wisdom oozing from the grey hair of the wise one from Kumawu. Now that I am back, never again will you be denied access to my wisdom. The little explanation offered above will be more than enough to bring back confidence in those who lost it with that unfounded allegation of NPP being "Akanfo3" party.

?

Nana Sarkodie Ababio, alias DJ Sources of Sources radio, a soon father-to-be, over to you. Would you please disseminate the content of this publication on your much listened to airwaves?

?

I am back to invigorate the NPP, put ideas forward, explain situations, enlighten people and counter falsehoods perpetrated by the rivals of NPP.

?

The battle is still the Lord’s. I dedicate this article to Nana Yaw Sarpong, (the London NPP Communication Team Director), Asabre Basoah of NPP France branch and Nana Yaa Afriyie, the Head of Nana Addo Ladies Club in Paris.
