Do some wives kill their husbands because of properties?

Sat, 5 Dec 2009 Source: Egu, Francis Kwaku

The stories of some wives killing their husbands to inherit their wealth have been re told several times over the years. Sometimes one wonders if they are just fables. There also other tales of teenage girls marrying very old men with the hope they will die soon so they take over their properties.

There were equally absurd stories of wives who mixed their husband’s food with grounded bottles. According to rumours the women usually house wives carefully grind beer bottles into powdered form. The powdered bottle is carefully mixed with the men’s food on daily doses. The idea behind this is to the kill the man slowly but surely. The crystal powder can not be digested and it gets deposited in the stomach and damages the stomach walls slowly.

The ill-fated husband will die eventually of what will be perceived as a natural death. Family members of the executed husband will suspect foul play but there will be very little they can do. A post mortem will be unable to establish cause of death because the pathologists will be too busy at their private clinics. As the country doesn’t have forensic experts or a coroner to scrutinize cause of death the executioners will go unpunished.

Other saintly wives consult occultists or demon possessed fake pastors to have their husbands obliterated. The condemned husbands indirectly paid these spiritual assassins’s fee through house keeping monies.

If you ask me some years ago about the validity of these tales I will boldly tell you they are cock and bull stories emanating from twisted minds but not anymore. Not after the anguish a friend has gone through in the hands of his wife.

Awumbila was a gifted medical student who had first class from Legon. As a result he was awarded a scholarship to Canada to pursue a programme in Nuclear Medicine. After settling down to life in Canada he decided to get himself a homely wife back from Ghana.

During his student days at Legon Awu was a silent admirer of Yaa Mansa an adorable law student. Yaa was a rare gem with a dazzling charm. She was so cute and lady of many men’s dream. Awumbila was too poor to propose love to her. Such gorgeous girls come with a price as it requires exotic treats at the posh places in Accra. All the poor souls could do was to nurse his sweet feelings with hope of rainy days some day. The rain did fell for Awu when he travelled to Canada. He could now afford any exquisite stuff including glamorous holidays to the Bahamas. He went in for the woman of his adulthood dream.

Canada has all the glittering things to thaw any stony heart. Also with the chance of leaving the ruined shores of Ghana beckoning Yaa accepted Awumbila’s proposal without blinking. The marriage ceremony was performed in grand style. Few months into the marriage Yaa joined Awumbilla in Canada. The sweetest thing for a guy is to marry a lady of his dream so Awu was in ecstatic mood when Yaa joined him.

All that glitter is not gold; Yaa’s seemingly charm was a sham. She had a very dark side which she cleverly hid beneath her cloths. A very terrible side which will make any guy think twice before thinking of paying her bribe price. When she got to Canada she became a fiend and tormented Awu’s life. She almost pushed him to the brinks. Laws in Canada favour women so all Awu could do was to whimper in desperation. Yaa entered the marriage for convenience and not for love. The man she adored lived somewhere in Madina. The guy was too poor to take care of her. Her scheme was to get to Canada under the guise of marriage to Awumbila; get rid of him and go for her heart throb.

Some few months after Yaa arrived in Canada Awu start falling sick mysteriously. A lot of medical tests were conducted on him but yielded negative results. Concerned friends got anxious about Awumbila’s failing health and probed further. It was then he revealed that soon after Yaa joined him anytime he ate her meals he tasted sand in the food.

His immediate thought was possibly the vegetables were not properly washed. Unknowingly to him Yaa was feeding him with the powdered stuff she brought from Ghana. When she was confronted by Awu she casually dismissed the idea but the damaged had already been done. Awu was finally diagnosed as having damaged stomach and required surgery.

When Yaa got wind of Awu’s vegetative condition she quickly rounded up their 4 kids. Soon she was on the next available flight to Ghana before the long arms of the Canadian laws start knocking at her door. While in Ghana she attempted to change the document covering Awus’ one story building at Spintex Road into her name but failed. She also made frantic efforts to annexed three Benz bus trucks Awu bought even before marrying her. Awu successfully recovered from his surgery and went back to Ghana. He discovered to his shock Yaa had gone back to the pauper she discarded to get the chance to travel abroad. She had secretly opened a shop for the guy at Madina market and he has become so polished. What an unfair world?

What will make a wife wants to waste human life just to inherit properties? Sometimes it is very easy to condemn these killer wives but most often it’s not their fault either. Some of these wives are such incredible wives who spent their youthful days helping their husbands through hard times. They sacrifice their lives toiling just to see their husbands achieve their dreams. As soon as the top is reached the men turned themselves into paedophiles. They develop acute taste for ‘am aware’ juicy girls who are full of energy. The men turned to these energetic sweet girls to satisfy their insatiate sexual cravings.

They suddenly become ageists and brand their loving wives as bored house wives who have outlive their usefulness. They have brittle bones, flabby tummies and look so unappetizing. How could some men be so unkind by describing their loving wives with such harsh words?
