To ensure that all political parties accept the results of the ongoing elections in good faith, the Alliance for Accountable Governance is calling on the Electoral Commission to as a matter of urgency reach an agreement with the principal stakeholders in the ongoing elections before results are finally declared.
Whiles we all joined Ghanaians in embracing the biometric system; it is important to make the point that the anomalies recorded at various polling stations across the country are so grave and therefore has the tendency to undermine the credibility of the results. It is clear that the several hours wasted at the various polling stations as a result of breakdown of verification machines has or stands to disenfranchise most eligible voters for no fault of theirs. Our rounds for example indicated that at comm. 8 tema, Maradex School Gbawe, Trobu , Agei kuma in Tema West, St. Nicholas Academy etc several voters stand the risk of being disenfranchised. This is inimical to the exercise and must therefore be addressed urgently.
To address this challenge AFAG, is calling on the electoral commission to pick verification machines from centers which have wrapped up voting to centers which has difficulties.
Again AFAG in the name of preserving our peace during and after the ongoing polls is asking the Electricity Corporation of Ghana, to immediately halt its plans to interrupt power supply during this all important national exercise. It will be a recipe for disaster and must therefore not be countenanced by all peace loving Ghanaians. In our collective efforts to ensure the credibility of the process, AFAG is urging all Ghanaians to troupe to the polling stations with alternative means of lightening as a backup plan. This is imperative.
Finally, we wish to commend all Ghanaians for the keen interest they have showed and continuously show in the exercise. This is commendable and testament of the fact that, the Ghanaian people have embraced the democratic ideal of selecting their leaders through the ballot.
