Dr. Lawrence asks: What has changed with 125 Ministers?

I remember very well when Nana Akufo-Addo was defending his first appointees of 110 Ministers, he told us the work load on his administration was heavy and he needed more men and women to do the work.

At a point, he insulted Ghanaians by telling us not to judge his administration by the number of Ministers he has appointed but we should judge them by their output. Now, almost three years into this Nana Addo’s administration with now 125 Ministers, what do you see has changed?

On Monday, there was flooding on the Accra-Tema motorway and then you ask yourself; if Ghana with 125 Ministers, should we still see stuff like this? As usual, I listened to radio politics and they are blaming Ghanaians for what happened on Monday.

I mean, if every mess is blamed on Ghanaians, why do we have 125 Ministers and not 25? Or should I say only 25 Ministers are actually working? What are the 125 Ministers doing that we should revisit something that happened some four years ago? Is Nana Addo still sleeping or has he realized that his 125 Ministers have failed?

You see, with 125 Ministers, some basic stuff like flooding and sanitation issues should not be discussed on radio. When there is flooding or road accidents, the radio producers quickly invite party communicators to discuss them and as usual, they do the blame game, whilst the sector Minister goes to his/her office and drink tea.

Why can’t radio producers invite Hon. Atta-Akyea to come and tell Ghanaians why such a flooding will never happen again? We are afraid to hold our governments accountable but blame ourselves for something we pay them to do. The Finance Minister, one of the 125, has not released money meant for flooding and we blame the guy on the street?

Dr. Bawumiah was at the NABCO anniversary and making unnecessary noise that inflation rate is now 7.6% so Ghanaians should clap for them. Did Dr. Bawumiah see what inflation rate did on the Accra-Tema motorway on Monday? It is very clear that this government with 125 Ministers doesn’t know it’s priorities. They abandoned major hospitals and invested heavy on drones. They’ve used three years to audit roads, hospitals, schools and every good thing meant for the people of Ghana. The projects have been abandoned and yet no audit report is made known. When there was flooding, they turned around and blamed us but unfortunately, we listened to them.

Let Dr. Bawumiah and Nana Addo know that what their 125 family and friends criminals have changed are that the national debt has moved from GHC 120 Billion to over GHC 200 Billion; corruption is at an all-time high; the exchange rate it now GHC 5.50 to $1.00; the prices of goods and services, petrol and transport have all gone up; contractors have not been paid for months; teachers and nurses have not received their salaries and allowances for months; hardship in Ghana now is at the roof-top, and the list goes on and on.

These are real changes that has affected the lives of Ghanaians and in 2020, these Ghanaians will be going to the polling stations with these changes in their minds. 2020 will be an interesting year.
