Facing the harmattan

Fri, 23 Jan 2015 Source: Quaye, Joshua Kweikuma

The harmattan generally is a dreaded season. The usually dry and dusty weather is particularly common in the North and West Africa. In Ghana, the season is the most feared, as it leaves cracks on people's lips, heels and body before it ends.

Long before this day, our ancestors took great care to prepare adequately for the season. The most effective creams and oils are harvested. It is even believed that they used palm nut oil as a body oil during the season.

This, they believed moisturized the body and kept it hydrated all day.

Children in those days, crack palm nuts, put the kernel in their pockets when headed to the river side. After swimming or bathing, these children chew the kernel, extract the oil and the fiber and smear it on the skin to keep it moisturized for the rest of the day. This was very common practise.

Research has indicated that the Harmattan blows south from the Sahara into the gulf of Guinea between the end of November and the middle of March. It is usually characterized by a cold, dry, dusty wind in the evenings until the early hours of the morning.

When the harmattan blows hard the heavy amount of dust in the air can severely limit visibility and even block out the sun, comparable to a heavy fog. The impact of the season is so enormous that it becomes a challenge to the skin, eyes and the body. It is a season that defies almost all creams on the market.

The season, to some extent has increased the time some people spend before the dressing mirror as people take great care to keep their skins deeply moisturized to avoid the embarrassment of dry and cracked skins.

It is even interesting nowadays, how females have increased the quantity of lipstick or lip-shine applied on the lips to make it glossy and greasy to resist cracks. Males too have adopted a similar strategy, all in an attempt to keep the body still presentable despite the ravages of the weather.

In order to fight the menace, I discovered a brand of shea butter. I stumbled upon it whilst researching online for a great local solution to my then cracked lips and skin. My discovery on www.vielung.com has not only completely solved my problem, it has also brought about a marked improvement in the very outlook of my skin and I will like to recommend vielung 100% Organic shea butter to you. I also through this whole trial of this great shea butter brand learnt about the very underestimated yet crucial benefits of 100% shea butter.

Shea Butter helps treat skin allergies, eczema, frostbite and a number of skin conditions.

Vitamin E in the Shea Butter is very good for the body as it increases micro-circulation. This is accomplished by two methods.

First, it increases micro-circulation to the skin, which results in increased blood supply to and from the skin.

Second, it serves as an anti-free radical agent thereby aiding in preventing the deleterious effects of the sun and environmental exposure

Medical experts insist that the dry weather conditions, which are associated with harmattan, have various health implications on humans, affecting the respiratory system, skin and eyes.

The skin can be kept healthy and moisturised by the application of shea butter. It could be applied even in your nostrils to aid in the treatment and prevention of colds and nasal congestion.

Since our skin and hair react differently to changes in weather, women especially experience hair breakage during harmattan because of the harsh nature of the weather, hence, it is a best practice in this period to always have SHEA BUTTER on you.

Application of VIELUNG SHEA BUTTER to the body and lips helps prevent them from cracking and since shea butter is edible, it is totally okay to use vielung shea butter since it is devoid of any chemicals whatsoever.

I used three products from the vielung range and this is my prescription. The Lip Balm will prevent the lips from cracks and make it glossy. The body cream will moisturize the body throughout the day and finally the hair pomade will keep your hair moisturized and healthy with a natural glow.

An expert advice after my experience, to balance the beauty regime for this season and beyond is for every lady and gentleman to always apply VIELUNG lip balm and cream.

It is important to note also that VIELUNG SHEA BUTTER is ideal for children even the most sensitive new born babies.

Research affirms that 100% natural Shea Butter is a great source of vitamin A.

Shea butter is a superb moisturizer with exceptional healing properties for the skin. It is especially good for children and new born babies.

Further studies indicates that Vitamin A in Shea butter is important for improving a number of skin conditions, including wrinkles, eczma etc.

The skin is the largest and most visible organ of the body and It is important to protect your skin.

That is why VIELUNG SHEA BUTTER would be your life-saver and would help moisturize your skin and lips just as mine.

Now that you are armed with this information, let's go face the harmattan with a new kind of boldness.
