The writer, a son of Kumawu/Asiampa soil in the Ashanti region, is appealing to, and inviting, the majority, if not all, qualified NPP delegates to vote massively for Dr Alhaji Mahammudu Bawumia in the impending NPP flag bearer election.

It is just right that the most meritorious candidate in any competition is chosen above their rival competitors.

Having taken time to study the conduct and the proposed policies and programmes of the five competitors, I will only advise all eligible NPP delegates to cast their vote for Dr Bawumia this second time around.

Throughout his campaign, he is neither personally seen nor heard of, misconducting himself by blackmailing, insulting, or running down any of his opponents.

He keeps trumpeting his intended policies and programmes if given the nod to become the NPP flagbearer cum presidential candidate by those vested with power to crown him the leader of the NPP, thus, the delegates.

Why this wilful attack on Dr Bawumia by some of his competitors and their supporters? Is that the best way available to them to outdo him in the competition?

If that is their purpose, then the writer is afraid they will have failed long before they go to the election scheduled for January 2026.

I had hoped for either Dr Bawumia or Kennedy Agyapong to win the election, but unfortunately, Kennedy inextricably keeps wallowing in deplorable characteristics unbefitting of a future president of Ghana.

One cannot hope to outperform his/her competitors by frivolously undermining them only to come out later to say, “It was all political talk,” although the harm would have been done.

NPP delegates, please hold no grudge against Dr Bawumia for his woeful performance in election 2024.

Whatever happened then was not his personal fault but down principally to certain historical and external factors beyond his control.

Nobody should deceive any of the delegates by persuading them to understand that the disastrous failure of the NPP in the 2024 election was because of the personal doings of Dr Bawumia and ex-President Nana Akufo-Addo but not more to do with Covid-19, the Russia-Ukraine war and the historically grounded 8-yearly cyclical rotation of political power between NPP and NDC.

The fact that the northerners of the same tribal traction voted massively against Dr Bawumia and NPP in election 2024 should in no way be used as a yardstick to write off candidate Dr Bawumia.

Are the northerners also not Ghanaians or human beings that felt the same weight of the militating external shocks and the historical but not mythical 8-yearly change of political baton between the two major political parties in Ghana?

All the competing candidates going into the pending NPP flag bearer election should please avoid trying their hardest to pin personal blame on one candidate or the other but to credibly disseminate their campaign messages to woo the hearts and minds of the voters.

The supporters of the various candidates should please desist from reckless statements, utterances and acts that will open the wounds instead of healing them.

Whatever pronouncements you make in the hope of damaging a candidate to elevate the candidate you support will one day be used against the NPP by the NDC to enhance their chances of winning future elections to continue to stay in power.

NPP delegates, please accord Dr Bawumia another opportunity to lead the party into election 2028, and hopefully, a brighter chance of grabbing power awaits him.

How I hoped the five candidates, including my son Kwabena Agyapong, had come together and ceased their acrimonious attacks to rather pursue their campaign as loving siblings from the same womb of the mother elephant.

It is still possible!
