PRESS CONFERENCE BY THE CONCERNED NPP YOUTH IN THE NORTH ON THE RECENTLY LEAKED TAPE OF THE NORTHERN REGIONAL CHAIRMAN MR. DANIEL BUGRI NAABU

Date; 25th January 2015

Good Afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen of the Press.

We commend you for the proactiveness with which you responded to our invitation to this press conference on such a short notice.

The NPP family in the North and Ghanaians in general are still in shock over contents on a leaked tape believed to be the voice of the Northern Regional NPP Chairman Mr. Daniel Bugri Naabu.

On the said tape, the Chairman alleged among many things that Ibrahim Mahama younger brother of President John Dramani Mahama bribed our National Chairman and General Secretary respectively with an amount of GHS200, 000 each to campaign during the internal contests in the party last year which saw them emerged victorious.

The said tape also captured the regional chairman at saying both bodyguards and drivers of Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong are both from national security. He also claimed that both are card bearing members of the ruling NDC. The tape disclosed that Paul Afoko, Kwabena Agyapong and Sammie Crabbe are not to be trusted for that matter they are going to be sidelined going forward into the 2016 elections.

He went further to state that himself, Freddie Blay the first vice, the party’s Running Mate Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, our next Prez Nana Addo, Nasara coordinator Abdul Kamal, Sammie Awuku, John Boadu the National Organizer, the other 9 regional chairmen and some selected NPP Parliamentarians would be the core of the 2016 campaign without the involvement of Mr. Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong.

He revealed that the above mentioned category of officials believed to be loyal to the party’s flagbearer meet at secret locations and take decisions on behalf of the party which is subsequently imposed on the National Executives.

In the said tape Bugri Naabu again is captured at saying “neither Paul Afoko nor Kwabena Agyepong are interested in Nana Akuffo Addo becoming the next President of Ghana.

Most disheartening is the disclosure that shadow national executives of the NPP flagbearer are going to start the 2016 campaign adding that the National Chairman and General Secretary can also go on their own to campaign.

Friends of the media, can you imagine and anticipate the chaos that would greet such a political party in an electioneering year?

We have noted with regret the long silence of some national executives whose names have been mentioned in the tape which gives credence to the fact that indeed such divisions are existent in the party which would not inure to its ultimate aim of winning power in 2016.

Patriots of the party have for days been waiting for a response from at least one of these executives alleged to be holding secret meetings plotting to oust the National Chairman and his Secretary but to no avail.

Nana Addo has carved an image as a unifier and his pronouncements after the famous supreme court declarations is a case study.

Nana Addo is known for extending olive branch to his opponents after every internal contests in the party and the all hands on deck tour after the 2010 internal contest is still fresh on our minds.

The contents on the tape are so divisive and doesn't smacks of a party that is poised for victory in 2016 and Nana Addo our next Prez must disassociate himself from it.

As concerned youth of the party, we feel all is not well for the party at the top and it may trickle down to the grassroots if measures are not immediately taken to curtail seeming growing divisions at the top.

Why would factions if any still exist when the sole interest of our dear NPP is to win power and liberate Ghanaians from the shackles of poverty and incompetent government?

If the leadership is comfortable being in opposition we the youth are fed up with President John Dramani Mahama’s government because “the kitchen is hot” and we can no longer contain the humiliation and suffering.

We are by this calling on the party’s flagbearer as well the other national officers to come clear on their involvement in nursing divisions or otherwise within the party since their silence is brewing some suspicion.

We are convinced that the conduct of the regional chairman has the tendency of repelling votes for the party.

The concerned Youth propose he must be sanctioned by the National Steering committee of the party and barred from making public pronouncements on behalf of the party henceforth.

We see most of his public and private statements as very divisive, repugnant and subversive to the forward March of the NPP victory in 2016.

.

We have suffered enough pain, humiliation and hardship and it is about time we work as a team.

We are by this statement calling on our Party's flagbearer and next Prez of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo to disassociate himself with the comments of Bugri Naabu as it doesn't depict the image Nana Addo stood for in his over four decade in active politics.

He has been chosen by the party as its flagbearer and must show the way for a united front we are looking forward to by cracking the whip when necessary.

Finally, we are by this giving the party a week's ultimatum on what it intends doing with its future either to win power or remain in opposition so we can advise ourselves accordingly.

Thank you. God bless us all and God bless the NPP.

Signed.
