Ghana needs to reform the educational system

Reading on Ghanaweb daily, I have observed that the "BUSINESS" segment of the news attract fewer comments as compared to the political news. A personal survey I did make me to realise that most Ghanaians do not have adequate knowledge on economic issues, even the educated ones. (Except those who did some basic economics, read Economics or went to Business school)

Sectorial reforms, especially in our education right from the JHS, will set us in the right direction. Economic and financial issues are unavoidably an important element of our daily lives. The JSS/JHS transition enabled some interventions in our education such as the study of ICT and others.

Introducing a course or subjects like Economic Studies and Finance will expose our JHS pupils to economic matters. This will help them in their daily life decisions and enable them to interpret and understanding economics issues. Such is a positive direction towards growth and development as a nation. Most Ghanaians don't understand macroeconomic economic terms such as GDP, Inflation rate, depreciation... We need an introduction to Economic studies and Finance at the basic level. It can be a combined study of integrated science, Religious and moral education.

In ICT I want to recommend that we introduce skill-based training like coding at the JHS level. A skill training in Microsoft office suite and Adobe Photoshop is also an added advantage.

The world is running with technology and with the digital age, we must reform in order to meet current demands.
