Ghanaians-Enough Is Enough

There is a certain irony to the fact that political witch hunt can slow down the progress of the economy. This is not a call to support the opposition, neither is it a call to support the Government in power or anything else for that matter. But let’s get a reality check here. The world economy is mired in the severest financial crisis and anyone who tells you that we're merely in a mild, accidental recession is attempting to befuddle and manipulate you for their own purposes.

The current depression is a wake-up call. We must recognize that the situation is totally out of control and destroying workers, industries and many institutions worldwide. It is forcing International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank offering loans to nations with ailing economies like Ghana, forcing them to implement draconian economic measures euphemistically called conditionalities.It is also laying off as many workers as possible, cutting wages at all levels, attacking the currencies of nations with ailing economies and forcing the nation to pay its debts to IMF and the World Bank before making any other payments.

Once people in all countries awaken to this intolerable economic devastation, the government of Ghana must begin to take back our nations and institute good policies and programs for the good of all Ghanaians rather allowing such witch-hunting to go on and on. Look !yesterday was Ex-president Kuffour’s witch hunt, today is President Atta- Mills witch hunt and tomorrow will be Mr. Mensah’s and what should we expect from him too? Should witch hunting continue unabated? I leave the answer to you.

The political leaders, law enforcement agencies and party supporters must stop supporting the witch-hunt in Ghana immediately. What is going on today in the world needs more attention to address our economy rather than this act. What is deeply disturbing about this whole episode is that it gives a chance for the 1979 revolution crisis to be recast yet again. We should not see our fellow political opponents or rivals as our enemies but as our allies struggling for the development of Ghana. We should also not allow ourselves to be conned into a meaningless act such as `’witch hunt’ or whatever you may call it.
