Government Makes Enormous Impact

Tue, 3 Oct 2006 Source: Laryea, Samuel

As a citizen of this great nation, l have pondered intensely about my input to the Socio-Economic development of the country. I have also questioned the impact of the political parties/governments (past and present) in our fight against the quagmire of poverty, hunger, squalor, corruption and disease.

Again, l have observed with deep concern what as a nation, we have done to promote good governance develop a healthy economy, with its adherence to good human rights practices.

As a growing Ghanaian and having read our history well, l wish to opine that the current administration has done a commendable lot to improve our now stable economy. Especially in the wake of the current Narcotics drugs menace, l wish to commend the government for its transparency to find the root cause of this problem.

Even though, we lack the institutional capacity, President Kufour’s government has done well to establish the Georgina Woode Committee. The minority also has a responsibility to ensure good governance hence, the need to hear constructively from them than they are doing now. I rather think that mischief and propaganda have become their lot.

My candid opinion (refer to our history), is that this particular committee is not shielding and (will not) shield anybody found culpable. I intend to postulate the position of a legal summary that the media and politicians should stop making prejudicial comments about the work of the Georgina Woode Committee. This was not the case during the trial of the Amartey-Kwei where he even had no legal counsel as required by law. Such comments as to who should resigned and be arrested must be left in the ambit of the respected Supreme Court Judge’s domain.

Mr. President, l will therefore urge you to apply the moxie as well as the mandate given to you by the good people of Ghana .May l therefore say KUDOS or BRAVO to His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana and his government for this massive showpiece exhibited of which l will strongly recommend should continue in order to curb the menace.
