Growing up – How long will it take you?

Sometimes one would wonder why Ghana has not yet advanced in democracy, social and economic development in general. My response, because our political leaders have not grown up yet. One of the biggest problems is that Ghanaian politicians has been approaching politics very badly in Ghana. For instance, as a political party in power, party cronies think of opening a coke bottle with a hammer or machine gun, instead of using the right tool.

They end up killing people and industries in the process. Isn’t that very childish? In power, we know the best solutions but will refuse to practice it because of this childish greed – refusing to give back after taking taxes from the citizens.

Watch it, Politicians in Ghana, most often are looking for a half, quicker, and easy way to do things. Never learning to grow up from failed projects. What can we boast of now to our children, if not insults? Insults and one-sided thinking.

Unfortunately, when children in grown-up bodies are handling the regulatory environment what do we expect? The best citizens and promising industries die because there is no conducive environment for individual talents and firms to thrive. I don’t want to mention examples of deserving industries that have collapsed in Ghana. Yet some politicians and the regulatory authorities are not growing up.

Like children, when our parents or political party is in power, everyone feels he/she is the boss. Unfortunately leading the entire country to lose our eyes on the ball. Then we begin to lie, say there was no ball before we arrive. To the grown-up countries, political parties, reasonably are not to subtract but add to the security systems, local industry's growth and development. What can we say about that today in Ghana?

Sometimes it baffles me and seems irrational how political parties fight internal battles and other parties vigorously with all strength as if the country has no developmental issues to address. How long will it take us to grow up from the one-sided view of politics.
