Of course, Late President Mills reposed trust in his then Vice President Mahama. Disappointingly though, Mahama lost the trust late mills reposed in him, because of his (Mahama) antics. Late Mills subsequently set up a committee to undertake sleuth- hounding exercise on his then Vice President Mahama. The gigantic question then is, if indeed late President Mills did not trust Mahama prior to his death, why should we go ahead and hand over our sovereignty to supposedly untrustworthy?
It would be a big mistake if discerning Ghanaians take the path late mills took by entrusting Mahama with the affairs of the nation. As noted by the former Attorney General, Mr. Amidu, late President Mills became extremely unhappy with Mahama. Sadly, late President Mills had lived under emotional dissonance-he displayed emotions that were not actually felt. In other words, late Mills expressed emotions that were different from the emotions that he felt whiles in office. If that was the case, then we can conclude that late Mills suffered extreme emotional labour due to the prankishness that surrounded him.” the negative effects of emotional labour stem from alienation or estrangement from true feelings”. Emotional labour can also be described as ““threatening one’s self of authentic selfhood in that it requires individuals to evoke certain types of emotions while suppressing others”. It is important to note that emotional labour can be harmful! Emotional labour probably harmed late President Mills. Nevertheless, late Mills acted as if all was well in his government, however, credible insider, Mr Amidu does not acquiesce. Late Mills indeed regretted for selecting Mahama as his Vice President.
Hear Mr. Amidu:”Indeed it was in 2010 that I told the late President and the Chief of Staff that if the late President could advise his appointees to reduce corruption, abuse of office and arrogance for the remaining two years the NDC would win the 2012 elections hands down”. “I kept going back to this topic with the late President and the Chief of Staff until 13th January 2012 when I fell out with the late President on the Woyome and other Gargantuan issues of corruption, abuse of office and the flagrant rape of the public purse by Ministers and their NDC collaborators in this Government”.
Incredible! What more do Ghanaians would want to hear before sending the “greedy bastards, ‘brats with sharp-teeth’ and ‘old evil dwarfs’ to the opposition? If Ghanaians somehow do not take Rawlings seriously, what about genuine person like Mr. Martin Amidu, who had had the privilege to handle some of the corruption cases? You see, our biggest problem is, some of us have opaque tympanic membranes and therefore it takes ’Methuselah years’ for us to become aware of the cacophonous surrounding us. In fact, any form of corruption harms the progress of the nation, let alone gargantuan corruption allegations like those hanging on the necks of President Mahama and his ‘old evil dwarfs’.
It is therefore incumbent on discerning Ghanaians to hold our leaders’ accountable regardless of our political leanings. Corruption is a serious issue, and it must therefore be treated with all seriousness it deserves. “Corruption is THE ABUSE OF ENTRUSTED POWER FOR PRIVATE GAIN. IT HURTS EVERYONE WHO DEPENDS ON THE INTEGRITY OF PEOPLE IN A POSITION OF AUTHORITY” (TRANSPARENCY INTERNATIONAL).
FELLOW GHANAIANS, LET US NOT LOSE SIGHT OF THE FACT THAT CORRUPTION CAN DIVERT SCARCE RESOURCES FROM POOR AND DISADVANTAGED IN OUR SOCIETY. IN THIS REGARD, IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT FOR US TO CHOOSE SERIOUS INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE THE WHEREWITHAL TO MOVE THE NATION IN A POSITIVE DIRECTION. WE MUST NOT AND CANNOT ALLOW GREEDY BASTARDS TO WASTE OUR SCARCE RESOURCES.
AS A MATTER OF FACT, LATE PRESIDENT MILLS MADE SERIOUS MISTAKES ALONG HIS ABRUPT TENURE IN OFFICE, IF WE ARE TO BELIEVE MR. AMIDU’S CREDIBLE AFFIRMATIONS OF WHAT WENT ON BEHIND THE SCENES, HOWEVER, I AM PREPARED TO LEAVE LATE MILLS TO REST IN PERFECT PEACE BY NOT ADMONISHING HIM ANY FURTHER. MY PIECE OF ADVICE TO DISCERNING GHANAIANS THEN IS: BE CAREFUL WHEN CHOOSING THE LEADER OF THE NATION NEXT TIME AROUND. WE MUST NOT AND CANNOT CHOOSE A LEADER WHO CANNOT PUT HIS FOOT DOWN AND ALLOW SYCOPHANTS AND INCOMPETENT INDIVIDUALS TO DUPE THE NATION CEASELESSLY. AS MR. AMIDU HAS MADE SOME OF US TO BELIEVE, late Mills problem was, he found it difficult to call the persons involved in the gargantuan corruptions to admonish them. It is in the light of this that I am urging discerning Ghanaians to choose a leader who would not countenance corruption in his administration.
