Is NPP Begging Ghanaians Or Not?

First it was Nana Akufo-Addo who begged supposed disappointed NPP supporters in Kumasi who for one reason or the other failed to show up at the polling stations to cast their votes for him during Round 1. He therefore, urged them to put their grievances aside and vote for him on December 28. How he wish they bought into his ploy.

Then just as the fishermen in Winneba were preparing to go fishing, Ms. Christine Churcher sneaked in. I am told she tried to smooth talk the fishermen to turn out to vote for Akufo-Addo. But when she realized that she was in a hostile arena, and that the fishermen were refusing to buy whatever propaganda she was selling to them, she made the smartest move. Down she went on her knees, begging, pleading and probably crying. This action was reported by no small national newspaper than the Daily Graphic.

Some Ghanaians are beginning to wonder why Ms. Churcher would kneel on hot sands to beg the fishermen, something Akufo-Addo’s wife who is aspiring to be First Lady would find it extremely difficult to do. This must have been a tough sell for Ms. Churcher because the worse nightmare of a salesperson is to talk and talk and at the very end hear the prospective customers say, “Thanks, but no thanks”.

When these two incidents caught the eyes of the Ghanaian public and they started questioning the rationale behind the sudden “Kraman Ahobrase” humility posture by the NPP people, out came Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, chairman of Akufo-Addo’s campaign team to debunk the two stories that the NPP is not begging the electorate to ostensibly win more votes. Jake however added something which makes very interesting reading. He told Mr. Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah; host of Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, that “People must at times feel apologetic for wrongs that might have committed inadvertently in the past”. Apologetic? Wrongs? Inadvertently?

So Jake is alluding that NPP is just feeling apologetic for wrongs that they inadvertently committed in the past. But what are those wrongs? I wish Kojo can get Jake again for him to expand on that statement. Is the bomb throwing incidents by his late dad during Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s presidency part of those wrongs? Does Jake feel apologetic for the Kulugungu bomb throwing incident that was orchestrated by his dad?

Jake then went on to inform Kojo that the NPP party should not be running anything like an apologetic campaign. First Jake said they are not begging for votes, but just being apologetic and then concludes that the party should not run an apologetic campaign. Kojo, you need to bring this man again on your show. That is what happens when a semi-illiterate is running a presidential campaign of such magnitude.

But just as Jake was talking about things he has little knowledge of, in came President Kufour himself. “Ledenkye”. He became the NPP’s latest crocodile crier. In a press conference in Kumasi he is reported to have asked for forgiveness for any wrongs Ghanaians may have suffered during his reign. Any wrongs again? Suffered? By Ghanaians? Under Kufuor? Now there you go. And Jake would say that his NPP party is not begging. They are just feeling apologetic.

Now the NPP’s political arena this week is turning out to be a begging galore. We are waiting to see which of the NPP gurus would be next on the “Burning Train”, sorry, “Begging Train”. By the way has anybody heard from Mac Manu and Ohene Ntow lately? The two arrogant guys may have gone underground after their party’s defeat in the parliamentary elections. Probably they are cooling off. They better because President Kufour’s heart has been jumping lately when he hears about corruption in certain quarters of the country.

I am still trying to figure out what wrongs the NPP has caused Ghanaians. Somebody help me. For a party which claims it’s above reproach, I cannot imagine they have committed so many wrongs that Akufo-Addo, Christine Churcher and President Kufour would all come out within a span of two days to beg for forgiveness.

This political theatre by these three individuals to me is a good start, but the “Zion Train” passed their way long before they came to their senses. Therefore, it could be classified as late. Too late. Ghanaians have set their minds on something brighter and higher. And that wind is blowing the Osono around. Have you ever seen a confused elephant? He roams wildly to stay afloat.. I wish the NPP people have not turned into Kangaroos five months ago. By turning into Kangaroos, they never thought the elephant would deposit huge feces for them to come back and clear. Now the feces are too huge that they cannot take less than two weeks to clear them.

That is why they need to go back into the political wilderness to learn how to be humble. Have you ever read about King Nebuchadnezzar in the bible? It took God to make him an animal before he became humble. We all have to learn from this. I believe when Professor Mills wins he would serve the country with humility and God fearing. This man has waited his time. And history for once will smile on this learned professor. God bless Ghana.
