Is There A Need For A Minister To Blast?
Dear auditor,
Allow me to make some comments on the Minister?s blasting
?This is someone who sits in the comfort of his home in America whose education was possibly sponsored by the state and contributes nothing to the economy. Comments from such people should be treated with the contempt that it deserves?. I think it is rather unfortunate that a minister responsible for parliamentary affairs should make such statement. A Ghanaian in America who consumes Ghanaian made products in the US is making huge contribution into the economy at home. And as I know, Ghanaians overseas are proud of their country and they are doing all they could to contribute to the development of the nation. And statements like this are not all that good for our infant democracy.
The Minister?s utterances are contrary to what the President J.A. Kufuor goes around telling Ghanaians in the Diaspora. The President said to us in Switzerland, ?I need all of you to assist build Ghana?. This statement means a lot to some of us. I think the President is not only talking about our remittances but also our ideas skills and experiences. And if Prof. Asare should make a contribution and it should be welcome with such comment as quoted above, then I am afraid of our democracy. I personally do not think comments from such people should be treated with the contempt that the Minister is thinking about. The man is not sitting in the comfort of his home to say anything at all that the Minister wants the Ghanaians to believe. Ghana is now at the bottom of a pit which could not be dug further. The only thing we need now is to come up.
The coming up needs the efforts of all Ghanaians at home and abroad. I thank the President for his fight for democracy and urge him to be vigilant in his operations in other to meet the yearning desire of Ghanaians and other Africans in the sub- region. If we all understand the meaning of ?loan? don?t we think that we should rather look for dialogue in this particular case? It is the same way governments of African countries go in for loans from the Western countries and think that after mismanaging them, such loans should be written off. How long shall we continue to be at the receiving end which is detriment to Africa?s growth?
