Media ethics now seems to have become a bitter pill or an eyesore to most of the Ghanaian journals and media houses. In the wake of the writ filed by Nana Akuffo-Addo and Co. at the Supreme Court against the Electoral Commissioner (Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan) and President John Dramani Mahama, the media have become obviously biased.
The media reportages on the Supreme Court sittings, decisions taken, and directions given, are mostly quite partial and so completely misinforming. They are always propagating falsehoods intended to portray the defendants (Kwadwo Afari-Gyan & John Mahama) in much better light while painting the plaintiffs (Nana Akuffo-Addo, Dr. Bawumia & Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey) as the devil incarnates.
Whenever the media are reporting the Supreme Court preliminary rulings on the case, they often emphasise those that go against Nana Akuffo-Addo and Co. They leave out those going against the Electoral Commissioner and John Dramani Mahama. What are the media up to by this glaringly nonsensical, hypocritical, unethical and completely misinforming reportages?
Are the media by their actions and seeming unprofessional typical Ghanaian-mindedness not preparing the populace against Nana Akuffo-Addo & Co, the NPP, and all those wishing to see JUSTICE reign supreme in Ghana at the end of the day?
The media by their current preposterous posture are in fact wishing for the continual perpetration and perpetuation of electoral fraud and abuse of presidential and governmental incumbency in Ghana in particular and Africa in general.
I require of the media nothing more than impartial reportage for the Ghanaian audience or public to make informed decisions based on truth but not falsities.
Could the public tune in to Oman Fm radio for a balanced view on what actually the Supreme Court decisions and preliminary rulings so far are or simply put, what transpires in the Supreme Court? The Supreme Court has granted and denied some of the requests made of the defendants (Kwadwo Afari-Gyan & John Mahama) by the plaintiffs (Nana Akuffo-Addo & Co.). In much equal manner, it has granted and denied some of the requests made of the plaintiffs by the defendants.
I hope the media will be more elaborative but less partially vindictive when reporting on the rulings coming from the Supreme Court on the pending electoral fraud case.
I am watching from today forward if the Ghana media will change for the better, behaving responsibly like their counterparts in the civilized world. I do not take pride in chastising people for the sake of it but in seeking to put them on the right path as one would normally expect of people with a bit of common sense.
