A Deputy Chief of staff and Parliamentary candidate for Oforikrom, Jonny Osei Kofi has expressed frustration at the spate at which campaign posters are being defaced in the country ahead of the December polls. On the eve of a special day he took to a social media platform to pour his frustration about the continuous defacing of posters in his constituency.

He writes:

Its midnight and I find myself awake in the confines of my bedroom. My campaign posters are being defaced and I’m worried!

A little over a month, I expressed concerns about continuous destruction and defacing of my campaign posters together with the president’s bill boards in my Constituency (Oforikrom) in the Ashanti region.

There are some people who appear to be very uncomfortable with my participation in the elections and day in and day out have been destroying my posters. They are even uprooting my sign boards and throwing them away, you know some of the process, they just reap them off, some of them deface it, some they use other things to paint it, and so on, some paste other posters on them, if am lucky they leave my face on …I am worried but again I am not worried, it shows that some people know that the NDC in Oforikrom is a challenge.

It is time to instill discipline in the body politic of the country so as to ensure no other person suffers same as has befallen me.

I have confidence in the security agencies to bring sanity in the way we conduct our affairs in the run up to the December polls.

I am sure if the police apprehend culprits, I and my ‘political brothers’ who are also in this race would be spared the agony of having to spend so much on replacing posters we have already pasted in the constituency.

It will be unlawful for any of my friends and that of John Mahama to destroy anybody’s posters. What we are doing is that, we paste the posters as the ghosts remove them.

Costly! But that’s the way to go. I understand the pain our friends feel having been up all night long pasting our posters only for some people to rip them off. I know that some few people do not want our images to be seen in the constituency, but I know God will find a way of pasting the images in the minds of the voters – even NPP voters. God is Greater.
