In 2000 & 2004, Ghanaians living in Ghana, voted for President Kufuor and the NPP to rule the people of Ghana living in Ghana. However, it seems the President and his ministers are more interested in the welfare of Ghanaians living abroad (only those in the developed world) who did not vote.
Proof
Nduom Explains MCA IN UK & Australia- The Minister for Public Sector Reforms, Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, met Ghanaians resident in Sydney, Australia, to explain the contents of the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA)
- Minister for Tourism and Diaspora Relations, Hon. Jake Obetsebi Lamptey and the Deputy Minister for Information and National Orientation, Honorable Oboshie Sai Cofie were in Atlanta, Georgia last week, as part of a US tour to inform and update the Diasporan community of the upcoming 50th Anniversary celebration in Ghana
- We find that of a nation of population over 20 million at least in the public sector side, only an estimated 500,000 people are paying taxes thus government has not been able to collect enough money to workout what would be a realistic pay system for the public pay which ...
- .... Ghanaian presidential hopeful Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo continued fielding questions from the eager crowd
- …. the Ghanaian Community media and elders recently in The Hague, the Deputy Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Environment, Poku-Adusei (MP for Bekwai) who was at the head of a three-man delegation to the Netherlands …… told the meeting that the cost of the [School Feeding]programme for this year is about 20 million Euros
- He briefed them on the new educational policy, the National Health Insurance Scheme, the infrastructural development going on in the country and development of ICT
Experiment
I called a relative, a teacher in Bekwai, and asked about these programmes that the government is eagerly explaining to diasporans. These are the answers:- “…MCA… no I don’t know what it is …”
- “… I’ve heard about it (50th Anniversary celebration) but I don’t give a damm”
- "... Kufuor and his ministers get realistic pay, so what is he talking about..."
- “I have no kids so I’ve not paid attention (to the school feeding programme)”
- I don’t really know what he (Akuffo-Addo) stands for, since he’s most of the time out of the country so I don’t know if he’ll make a good one(president)”
- “..development of ICT? What is ICT?”
- “National Health Insurance Scheme …good one but it’s a farce …. “
Conclusion
There was a tro tro that run by my house with the following inscription in front: “Travel and see”. The back read “Use Your Brain” I hope the government and readers of this article will always drive behind that “trotro”, i.e if it's not been run out of business
