Letter From The President: Already in Motion

Fri, 17 Sep 2004 Source: J. A. Fukuor/Daily Dispatch

Countrymen and women, loyalists and opponents, as you may be aware, ?I am already in motion?. I am not ashamed to steal Tata Mills? phrase from 2000 for it describes the current stage of my campaign for re-election. My campaign machinery is almost in top gear and so far I have not even spent a dime. All I have been doing is to use the privileges of incumbency to my advantage and I now understand why Tata Mills sounded so embarrassed when he made the ?I am already in motion? pronouncement.

Being the incumbent is very sweet and using the privileges of incumbency to campaign for re-election is even sweeter, but a little bit tasking on the mind. You need to draw a fine line between campaign programmes and state functions. Drawing that line is not easy. So I have given up. I don?t care what people say. I have done my best to hide the fact that my recent regional tours are campaign tours and I have failed woefully. But am not sorry. I can?t help it and you can?t blame me.
