PROF. JOHN EVANS ATTAH MILLS

THE CURRENT STATE OF “ZONGO” THE NDC FACTOR

It is important that history of this country be told in its pristine and unadulterated form if NDC as a political party is to fine effective solutions to numerous political problems, created by our greedy politicians and corrupt leaders found in every field of human endeavors, which are retarding the progress of the NDC party.

I quite agree with the founder of the NDC former President Jerry John Rawlings, when he from time to time complains about the corrupt and inhumane attitude of some of our NDC leadership and its future progress.

To begin with, it is an indisputable fact that Northerners, for that matter, the zongo communities in Ghana forms a significant percentage of the NDC as far as voting is concern. NDC is able to win elections based on the fact that, majority of our youth pledge and volunteered to die for it cores no matter the situation. Our people do ride bicycles and travel 30-40 km just to campaign for the NDC to come to power. But what have we seen over the years? We are perceived to be like the “hole” it is only useful and significant during the farming season and abandon immediately after harvest. That is the relationship between the NDC and our Zongo communities.

My people lets us rise and fight for our right. There is a saying that, “if you don’t fight for your right you lose them justly”. We deserve better and more than what they are giving to us. NDC has never recognized its sympathizer at all immediately after voting. The Zongo community is only visited during the month of “Ramadhan” to be deceived with Sugar, Milk and maybe Rice. This for me is an insult to our intelligence. How can you give a whole Mosque of not less than 500 people 5 sacks of sugar to share because you want our vote? Does it mean that, our priority has not gone be young food? What an insult. We should eat so that we will be strong enough to fight and die for you to win elections?

What do you give to us? Absolutely nothing. You only come to deceive us and go away. But then you have forgotten that gone are the days when most of us were following the party blindly. Today the trend has charged drastically and that was the basic reason that lured to the difficulty in the NDC winning elections in 2008.

I thought the party hierarchy would have sat down and assess the situation but they are rather doing the west things that will pave way for the opposition NPP to come to power.

NDC think the Zongo do not have priorities as a community and have also lose touch with the reality.

They shared Sugar, Milk and some of the GHC 20p biscuits to our Muslim brothers in Mosques during the month of Ramadhan. Can you imagine? Just go the Zongos you will see wonders for yourself. People we are hardly seen even on TV, are now knelling before our Imams to do a presentation.

Gone are the days when a politician who doesn’t want to help will ask you to bring a certificate, today we have better graduates in town but suffering day in day out to get jobs. Many are those who attended private universities paid huge sums of monies, yet we cannot get jobs and the politicians keep deceiving us. For example, when the Adentan District Assembly was recruiting people in the constituency for the NYPA, many people submitted their applications and the Assembly also went round wrote names for that matter, but later we were told from a reliably source at the Assembly that, most of the beneficiaries were picked outside the Constituency.

Could you believe some friends went to a particular Minister at the Ministries (still in office) to help link them in the job market and this man insulted them in his office?

Even though he is suppose to be a role model to inspire the Muslim younger generation. But then he has forgotten that even if they were not coming from his constituency but they are his brothers and NDC sympathizers that collectively voted for the party to come to power and that made him a Minister. My brother in terms of support, caring and also having proper plans for the Muslim youth in Ghana, looking at the trend, I want to believe that, the NPP we rather opposed to is doing more for Muslim rather than the NDC. To begin with, I was recently invited to a graduation ceremony at the KENCITY MEDIA house Madina-Zongo Junction and to my surprise, Hon. Kenedy Ohene Agyapong the Asin North MP sponsored about 29 Muslim youth on ICT paying for all their expenses at the Global Call Academy-Nima.

As if it was nothing, the Hon. Member went ahead and made a promise of personally employing five of the graduates immediately in his company. He has made a categorical promise of placing the remaining 24 by consulting friends who are in the job market.

He has also enrolled another set of 30 students again in the same institution under his sponsorship and promised to extend his support to the north as early as possible, He has granted Muslims 30 minutes air time on both NET 2 TV and OMAN FM Radio free of charge for Islamic programmes.

Today whether we like it or not one need to have a strong person in a high position and the willingness of that person to help you otherwise you are doomed, no matter who you are, how credible or knowledgeably you are. Now that we have many Muslim MPs and Ministers of state in government, that is the time we have compounding problems. They are good in telling stories and giving unpardonable excuses, yet, the other side is doing so, why? Shall we continue like this?

Your Excellency do something as early as possible otherwise it will be very unfortunate for the NDC in 2012. Do not be deceived by the Sugar, Milk and Eid-ul Fitr crowed……

Be continue
