When we step outside, we’d prefer it if we were presenting the best version of ourselves to people – as opposed to a rough copy. But this is not always so easy.

The thing is, presenting the best version of yourself to others is one thing, but when you return home, it’s really easy to fall back into your old habits.

Indeed, it’s when you’re at home alone that you need to be the best version of yourself. If you aren’t, more time is going to be wasted watching Netflix when you know you should be doing something productive.

Instead of success and living the life you’ve dreamed of, you’ll continue to stagnate.

It’s not easy to be our best at all times and fulfil our true destiny. But if you’re looking to reach for the stars and get more out of your life, here are a few things you need to do in order to become the best version of yourself.

Stop Being Negative

Your brain is wired to take what you say as gospel. If you tell yourself that you can’t do something, your brain is going to instantly give up. The result? You won’t do it.

If, however, you tell yourself that you can totally do this, your brain will wake up and rise to the challenge. It will pair up with you and help you to achieve whatever it is you desire.

For this reason, it’s important that you cut the negative talk. Instead of saying: “I can’t” – say: “I can!”

Silence your inner critic. Put a positive spin on things. Don’t worry about what others might think. Tell yourself that you’re going to win today.

Start Saying No To People

Is saying No to people a sign that you’re being negative? Nope!

If you say Yes to people all the time, those same people will take you for a ride. Instead of living your life to the full, you’ll be helping them live theirs.

While this is all nice and sweet, it’s doing you zero favours.

It’s time to set some boundaries by looking after yourself for a change. To be the best you can be, you need time. And you can only get more time when you say No to people.

Stop Criticising Others

Being critical of other people just makes YOU feel worse, and breeds even more negativity. As well as bringing others down, you’re also bringing yourself down. And this is not cool.

You can’t become the best version of yourself, if you spend a lot of time judging others. You’re damaging their self-esteem, and in turn you’re swimming in a negative universe. It’s a vicious cycle that you need to break out of.

Instead of being cynical, be happy for others. Share in their success, offer compliments and advice. You will feel so much better – and so will they.

Celebrate Your Imperfections

No one is perfect. If you think celebrities and movie stars are perfect, think again.

Even though none of us are perfect, some of us are still very good at presenting the best version of ourselves. How? By being okay with our flaws.

Flaws are what make us human. Instead of trying to hide them, celebrate them.

Stop Fearing Failure

When I was at school, I was terrified of failure. I knew my mom and dad hated it when my grades were down, and I hated it, too. If I scored badly at something, I thought the jig was up – I was bad at something, and that was all there was to it. I would never get better at it.

These days, I know that failure is nothing but a teacher that we learn from. Failure is not the end – it’s just part of the process. When you fail, you learn from your mistakes and do better next time.

If you fear failure, you won’t take risks. Instead of leaving your comfort zone and achieving all that you desire, you will stagnate. You won’t feel fulfilled or satisfied. You won’t be the best version of yourself.

Focus On Your Values

Your values are important. Our values guide our every thought, action and decision. A person who knows their values is consistent with everything they do. They are sure of themselves, and they never regret a thing.

If you don’t know what your values are, your thoughts, actions and decisions will be inconsistent – and they could leave you with regrets.

Write down your core values. This will give some way to bolstering your identity and ensuring that you are the best you are. You will become a person who makes decisions with conviction and assertiveness.

Stop Fearing Success, Too

Fearing success sounds strange, right? You’re probably sitting there right now, thinking to yourself “I don’t fear success!”

But haven’t we all got nervous when things are going really well? Haven’t we all thought that, surely, something is going to go wrong soon?

Or how about the time we got so close to success that we began to panic about new responsibilities, commitments, fear of losing our identity and so on?

How about getting so close to success that we began to fear change?

This happens. I remember getting offered a job that I’d always wanted, only to start feeling anxious when I sat down and thought about everything that it entailed. It meant more hours at work, more responsibilities, and it meant I’d have to move town.

I was scared, and I didn’t take the job.

I regret this now. But this is what can happen when we fear success. It prevents us from being our best.

Forgive People

If you don’t know how to forgive, you’re going to building up more of that negative energy inside you. Forgiveness helps you to move on, and prevents you from getting stuck in the past.

Don’t just forgive others – forgive yourself, too. Put an end to past regrets and resentments, release it all and liberate yourself. You’ll feel so much better.

How to become the best version of yourself? What are your best tips?

Stay happy!
