Mahama And His Father Abused The Northern Scholarship

Sun, 19 Jan 2014 Source: Sarpong, Justice

The time has come for President Mahama to stop his tribalistic rule and discharge his duties as a President instead of behaving like the Bole-Lana of his native Bole. How can the President say he will not disappoint Northerners because he is the son of the North instead of saying he will not disappoint Ghanaians? Can you believe an Asante President saying in Mampong that he will not disappoint Asantes because he is an Asante?

The time has come for all discriminatory policies in Ghana to be abolished and replaced with nationalistic policies that will bring us together.

President Mahama's father abused the free education for the Northerners by marrying multiple women and producing nineteen(19) children he educated free on the back of hard working Ghanaian taxpayers at a time when his father was among the 1% wealthiest Ghanaian as an Nkrumah's Minister. This policy of free education for the Northerners time has come to be scrapped especially about the part that pays for the children of these People children boarding fees upkeep.

As they say, 'A seed does not fall far from the tree', President Mahama is an exact template of his father when it comes to producing children and if he has not already passed his father's nineteen children, he is very close in doing so and the sad part about is that, President Mahama can choose to educate his children for free if he decides to follow in his father's footsteps by enrolling his children in shools in the North.

President Mahama's father lived in Accra and educated him even as an Elementary school student at Achimota boarding school but when it came time for Mahama to enter secondary school, he enrolled him at Ghana Secondary school at Tamale to take advantage of the free education to the Northerners. Is it fair for President Mahama's native Southern driver and Butlers to pay school fees to educate their children without the option available to President Mahama to educate his numerous children for free if he chose to do so? This policy is not fair and I know the Northerners are going to descend on me like bees on horney for having the audacity to say the truth.

I am going to be accused of being tribalistic and discrimination against the Northerners but if one has to analyze it carefully, the discrimination against Northerners is not from Southerners discriminating against the Northerners but rather the Northern educated Elites discriminating against the illiterate poor Northerners as the SADA 'Akomfem and tree planting' fiasco revealed. More than fifty five million dollars($55 million) earmarked to help the poor Northern people has found its way into the pockets of some few well connected Northerners.

This dependency syndrome that breeds laziness and irresponsibility mentality ought to be discouraged and People should not be marrying three or four wives with ten children when they are in no position to educate them from their own pockets.

We have had this free education for the Northerners the past fifty years and more and it is time to cancel this policy entirely or at least eliminate the subsidy on the feeding portion. It is better to have day secondary schools and admit more Northerners in the existing secondary schools by turning some of the boarding facilities into classrooms.

Northerner who wants to board their wards should then pay for their feeding fees. The gravy train has left the tracks of Ghana and it is time people become more responsible instead of producing children and thinking it is my responsibility to pay taxes and educate their children and my own. When are the Northerners going to get off from this welfare and stand on their own two feet? More than fifty five years of free education is enough to address whatever discriminatory policies the Colonial Masters inflicted on the Northerners.
