Kwabena Mensah
I have listened with much amusement Rawlings’ condemnation of President Mills and all of his ministers over the past year and a half. I have watched the accusations by his wife and spokespersons during and after the launch of her presidential bid. He has called our peaceful, non violent and patient president all manner of names, all under the guise of seeking accountability for and on behalf of Ghanaians. Well, if this is really about accountability one would have thought that those that preach accountability will live exemplary lives that others can emulate. Can Rawlings tell us and his dwindling followers whether or not the following are true:
1 Rawlings, like Kuffour, was given a plush house at Trassaco Valley by the state – probably the best residential estate you will find in West Africa! (contrary to Rawlings’ family’s claim that they were left destitute after their house was burnt down);
2. The cocoa processing company was given to the Rawlings – this is valued at ($5million dollars, yes 5 million dollars of tax payers money) true or false? 3 The Nsawan Cannery was also given to Mrs Rawlings under the guise of 31st Dec Womens Movement- True or false?
3 Rawlings was given 4 cars by the state as part of his resettlement package, true or false?
4 Rawlings was financially compensated in the region of circa $7 million dollars- true or false?
Now if the Rawlings and their new found spokesperson Herbert Mensah can come out and deny all of these claims then we know that they are truly as clean as they claim they are and they can continue to preach probity and accountability and demand that others be thrown in jail.
Fact is they can’t deny any of the above.
Rawlings and his family must stop pretending that somehow they are doing all of this in the name of ordinary Ghanaians. They refuse to live like ordinary Ghanaians. Ghanaians will call all of this what it ought to be called- greed, period.
Rawlings’ call for accountability is a complete sham. It’s all about the Rawlings family and their control of the NDC. What Rawlings should appreciate is that the NDC of today is not the NDC of 1992. The party is an independent democratic organisation and as Betty Mould nicely put it: “it does not belong to any one individual or family”.
NDC DOES NOT BELONG TO MR AND MRS RAWLINGS.
