NDC have never genuinely won any election in Ghana

The National Democratic Congress (NDC), which evolved from the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC), a military government, has never fairly won any election in Ghana since its inception. This assertion was first publicly made by Mrs. Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, widow of the late President Jerry John Rawlings, the Chairman of the PNDC and founding father of the NDC.

There is an Akan proverb that says, “If a marine iguana emerges from underwater to announce the death of a mother crocodile, you don’t dispute it.” Why? Because the iguana lives in the same waters as the crocodile. Therefore, if the wife of the NDC’s founding father, who was also Head of State of the PNDC from 31 December 1981 to 1992 and President of Ghana under the NDC from 1992 to 2000, confidently makes such a statement, who are we to doubt her?

My own observations of the conduct of the NDC reaffirm the claim made by Mrs. Rawlings. The NDC consistently misleads the public. They deceive the electorate with false promises about improving the nation and the living conditions of citizens. They also distort the truth about the capabilities and achievements of their political opponents.

If this were not the case, why would the NDC have a propaganda wing with a designated propaganda secretary? It is through lies, manipulation, and coercion that they dupe Ghanaians into supporting them, sometimes instilling fear to achieve electoral success.

When a party relies on falsehoods, intimidation, and threats—whether of violence, murder, kidnapping, or arson—can it truly claim to have won an election fairly?

In the days of late President Rawlings, it was alleged that ballot boxes were pre-filled with votes in favour of the NDC and secretly introduced into polling stations to secure victory. It’s no surprise that Mrs. Rawlings, who was likely privy to such events, felt confident enough to make the bold declaration about the party’s electoral practices.

Didn’t President Rawlings once advise President Mills not to tell Ghanaians the truth during election campaigns, but instead to spin the sweet lies that would persuade voters?

Former President Mahama, the NDC’s 2024 presidential candidate, has made similar statements. On a campaign platform, he told his audience in the Volta Region that he would mix a little truth with lies—if the sweet lies would sway voters to support him.

With such actions, coupled with the alleged mobilization of minors and foreign nationals from Togo and Ivory Coast to vote for them, how can anyone convincingly argue that the NDC has ever genuinely won an election in Ghana?

As the 2024 election approaches, the NDC, led by Mr. John Dramani Mahama, is already beating the war drums, threatening violence should they fail to win the 7 December election.

Why does the NDC visit cocoa farmers and deceive them with false claims that the NPP government will tax them for the smoke emitted when they burn weeds and debris to prepare their land? How can they so callously take hardworking cocoa farmers for fools, simply to secure votes?

The NDC has never fairly won any election in Ghana. They cannot compete on a level playing field of decency, truth, and innovation, as demonstrated by Dr. Alhaji Bawumia of the NPP. Instead, they engage in gutter politics, led by figures like Sammy Gyamfi, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, Fiifi Kwetey, and Okudzeto Ablakwa.

NDC, is it true that you have never genuinely won an election in Ghana without resorting to foul play?

In conclusion, I urge cocoa farmers not to vote for Mr. Mahama and the NDC. They continue to lie, taking advantage of you for their political gain.
