NPP- THE PARTY THAT LIVES IN A GLASS HOUSE
We are at a loss as to why suddenly a lot of calls are being made to politicians to be mindful of their language and avoid insults in their political discourse.
The calls can only be coming from hypocrites. Where were they when the then President Rawlings was being insulted on a daily basis by members and supporters of the ‘ma te me hu’ political tradition?
Where were they when these birds of the same feathers were heaping insults on President Mills? To say insulting political opponents is the stock-in-trade of the ‘ma te me hu’ adherents is an understatement; it is their oxygen. But little do they realize that they live in glass houses and therefore shouldn’t throw stones. Now that others are throwing their own stones back at them, the so-called members of the moral society have suddenly realized that insults will destroy our still infant democracy.
We want to commend the likes of Kobby Acheampong, and Hannah Bissiw among others for standing up to the NPP and returning fire for fire. More Kobby Acheampongs and Hannah Bissiws in the NDC will compel the ‘ma te me hu’ adherents to become civil in their language.
As Former President Rawlings once said, “there comes a point when moderation, restraint and the avoidance of confrontation becomes counter-productive…the time has come to deal with these elements in terms they can understand”
Pushed to the wall, even Archbishop Desmond Tutu said that anti-apartheid campaigners have no choice than to resort to violence because violence is the only voice apartheid knows. In similar vein, it seems to us that insults is the only language that the ‘ma te me hu’ adherents know. In that case, whenever they throw pebbles at others, they must expect rocks in return.
For the hypocrites who want the NDC to turn the other cheek when they are insulted, we can only conclude that they must be living in kukus land. So, let the Otabils and the Karikaris of this world take note and first go and advise their people to first stop hurling insults at President Mills, Former President Rawlings and other leading members of the NDC as well as the party itself.
President Mills, of course, must know that he would only be cutting his nose to spite his face if he implements the advise of these hypocrites to dismiss any of his men and women for replying the ‘me te me hu’ adherents in their own language. After all, even the GOOD BOOK enjoins us to give a stupid answer to a stupid question.
