Thu, 13 Nov 1997 Source: --

Akwatia (Eastern Region), 12 Nov., The Polite Preparatory School at Akwatia has been badly hit by a rainstorm, which ripped off the roof of five of its six classrooms, store and office. Mallam Musah Cobbinah, proprietor of the school and Mr. Eric Akoto, headteacher, who took newsmen round to assess the extent of damage, said he would need about six million cedis to repair the damage. The proprietor said while doors and a number of school furniture were destroyed, books and registers got soaked with water. Mallam Musah lamented the fact that examinations are around the corner unless he could obtain assistance without delay, the studies of the pupils would be badly affected. He called for assistance from the National Disaster Management Organisation, non-governmental organisations, individuals and other organisations to repair the damage to enable normal classes to resume.
