The old Nchumuruman Secondary School with a total student enrolment of 1,200 was organised predominately in structures with thatched roofs. Under these difficult conditions, quality learning and teaching was severely compromised, with predictable low learning outcomes.
A visit to the school compound brought into sharp focus the wisdom in the vision to construct a new Senior High School to serve the community.
With the completion and commissioning of the E-block, three key policy pillars of the Ministry of Education (Access, Equity and Quality) have been achieved at one site.
This community which was underserved, had achieved some measures of equity in terms of distribution of educational facilities. The people of Nchumuru who hitherto had thought that such magnificent structures like the E-block were the preserved of urban centers now feel part of the development of the country, anchored in e a sense of belonging.
Facilities such as properly constructed and ventilated classrooms, ICT Laboratory, a well-equipped Library, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Integrated Science Laboratories, offices for heads of departments, a staff common room, an assembly hall, a conducive environment for learning etc., which were not available in the old school are now provided for at the new facility., The justified excitement and gratitude of the students, staff and community to the new school testify to the success of the Mahama administrationin responding to real need.
With the commissioning of the new school, conditions have now been created for easier realization of the motto of the school, “First among Equals.”: The new school has now brought hope, opportunity and a sense of satisfaction to the community, and thereby deepening their sense of national pride.
