Jachie-Ashanti, April 18, GNA - The World Bank has released about 5.76 billion cedis towards the completion of two small water projects at Jachie-Pramso and Foase, all in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma (BAK) district.
The assembly and beneficiary communities are contributing 840 million cedis towards the projects estimated at 6.6 billion cedis. Last year, the assembly constructed three boreholes to be fitted with electric pumps in the communities.
Mr Simon Osei-Mensah, Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe, announced this at the inauguration of Jachie Parliamentary Fun Club on Sunday. He said contracts for the projects would be awarded soon for work to commence.
Mr Bright Addai-Mununkum, BAK District Chief Executive told the Ghana News Agency that the assembly had paid its counterpart funding of 544 million cedis while the beneficiary communities had also paid their contributions of 100 million cedis each.
He said the project would involve laying of pipes, erection of water storage tanks and fixing of electric pumps to the boreholes to pump water to the storage tanks.
Mr Paul Adusei Agyemang, Chairman of the club, said it was established to educate the people on government policies and programmes. He said the club had initiated scholarships for junior secondary school students and in addition, provide exercise books, bags and school uniforms to four needy pupils at Jachie and its surrounding communities.
