No traffic lights working in Bolgatanga

Bolgatanga is the capital city of the Upper East region of Ghana. It is also the capital of the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly, almost all the regional headquarters of public and international institutions are based in Bolgatanga.

In addition to this, Bolgatanga is also the second most populous city in northern Ghana after Tamale.

The road network is one of the best in northern Ghana with a highway which links Ghana to Burkina Faso, Niger and Mali.

Due to the cosmopolitan state of the city, traffic management have been a challenge under periodic review. The installation of traffic lights at vantage junctions and turnings in the municipality have led an efficient traffic management.

The traffic lights in the city have been down over seven weeks now. Priorities have not been given to this menace with Stake holders in the Municipal assembly and the Regional coordinating council have been plying these roads on daily basis.

Authorities are waiting for fatal accidents to occur or the coming of the president or top government officials into the region before these traffic regulators are fixed. The MTTU of the Ghana Police service and the National road safety management authority have not provided personnel to mitigate this situation.

The populace especially children and pedestrians are exposed to high risk of being knocked down by vehicular traffic when crossing or using these roads. This situation has led a poor traffic regulation in the city. Let us not wait till important souls are lost before these urgent traffic lights are fixed.
