"Dr. Bawumia has no liability of apology to anybody in this country or the African Development Bank (AfDB) neither to Government of Ghana or those who are asking for that apology, that apology won't come.We have provided evidence to back our claims and there is an empirical evidence to support that"
--Anthony Karbo--
Mr Karbo, I am in total agreement with you, what did Dr.Bawumiah say that was untruth for him to apologize to? Anytime Dr. Bawumiah says anything about the economic performance of this government, frigorific panic attack goes on in the Ndc family.
Folks, the issue here is about what Dr. Bawumiah told students and other guests at Central University in Accra about how Ghana has been put under sanctions by The African Development Bank Group(AfDB). According to Dr. Bawumiah, Ghana was blacklisted by (AFDB) for non-payment of debts. The following day, after Ndc has prevailed upon the Bank, the Bank came out and issued this statement;
"The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) has denied a recent assertion by Ghana's former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia that it has blacklisted the West African country for non-payment of debts.The Bank clarified that it erroneously put Ghana on its sanctions list in February this year but hurriedly effected a correction. "On 18 February 2015, due to an administrative oversight, Ghana was erroneously included in the list of countries under sanctions by the AfDB. However, the error was detected that same day and a corrected list was immediately issued in replacement," the Bank said."
The question then is, why are the Ndc apologists and its sharp teeth babies demanding an apology from Dr.Bawumiah? "APOLOGY FOR WHERE"? It is not like Dr Bawumiah lied about his assertion. Dr Bawumiah was quoting from the Banks own circulated letter dated 17th February. First, the Bank is not being truthful when it said it put this information out on the 18th February when the circulated letter Dr.Bawumiah had was dated 17th February.
The sanctions according to him were effective in January 2015 and said Ghana in that regard joined an exclusive list of nations such as Somalia, Sudan, Zimbabwe, and Djibouti which were currently under AfDB sanctions.
AFDB is trying to protect Ghana and itself from being blacklisted as an untrustworthy institution. Ghana was not mistakenly put on the list due to administrative error. Ghana was rightly on the list because it had failed to meet its loan payment obligations. "ADMINISTRATIVE ERROR FOR WHERE"?
Do you know why the IMF bailout loan was delayed? During the IMF credit check on Ghana before it granted its loan , it was detected that Ghana was under sanctions due to its failure to pay AFDB loan. Ghana hurriedly arranged payment and colluded with the Bank to issue a statement that it was an administrative error. "ADMINISTRATIVE ERROR FOR THE WHERE?"
How can a Bank of AFDB caliber make such a gargantuan error in naming only five countries and getting it wrong ? It was not like one person made that mistake. Believe me, a whole lot of officials checked and "rechecked" the names of countries under sanctions before going public with the names.
Folks, this is not the first time Ndc government has done this to an International institution in order to get a loan. Do you remember Dr Kwabena Duffour massaging figures and painting a rosy picture to the world bank about how Npp has left a healthy economy but went to Parliament and gave different numbers and worse economic scenario Npp left behind?
During Rawlings administration, it did the same thing and Ghana was made to pay $20 million penalty for massaging figures. It is the AfDB and Ghana government that have credibility issue here not Dr. Bawumia and if anybody has to apologize, then it should be the Bank and the Ndc administration that have disgraced the country and should apologize to Ghanaians.
'If you believe AfDB's response regarding publication and correction date of their article. Go to their website www.afdb.org; select "News & Events" from title bar; narrow search with Date range FROM 17/02/2015 TO 19/02/2015 (Due to bad programming date range FROM 18/02/2015 TO 18/02/2015 yields no results).
If AfDB claims they corrected their mistake by removing Ghana from their "suspended list, why are entries for the other African countries (Somalia etc) also missing?' Is the Bank telling the whole world other four African countries have been removed from their sanctions? I can't forsooth this.
As usual with Ndc government, it has unleashed its attacking dogs on Dr Bawumiah including Dr.Omane Boamah, Ofosu Kwakye and others. these people have not learnt their lessons when dealing with the world respected Economist, Dr.Bawumiah who have always been absolved with his criticism when his predictions manifests themselves into reality.
The two Deputy Finance Ministers have come out as usual with their infantile denials.
Deputy Finance Minister Mona Quartey has said most of the figures churned out by former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana Dr Mahamudu Bawumia at his recent lecture on the $940-million bailout package from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as well as the economy at the Central University College (CUC) were inaccurate. We have the numbers and we can speak to the numbers," Mrs Quartey told Morning Starr's Kafui Dey on Starr 103.5fm.
Lady, you have the numbers and can speak to the numbers alright by massaging them as your Party is known to do. Not to be out done by his other half, the other Deputy Minister has this to say;
"I expect Dr Bawumia to come and apologise to the nation," deputy Finance Minister Ato Forson told Starr News. "Because my worry is he describing the Finance Ministry and the NDC as smart drunkards. I think it is unfair."
YES, YOU ARE ALL SMART DRUNKARDS, YOU DON'T LISTEN TO ADVICE WITH YOUR "YENTIE OBIAA, DEAD GOAT SYNDROME"
Dr Bawumia has always been attacked anytime he speaks on the economy only for him to be vindicated later on.
