Nduom: The Political Imp Of The Perverse

Wed, 19 Oct 2011 Source: Dadzie, Kweku

Human society designates to a large extent some sort of human interaction to

control and manage public life, hence politics. Strangely, in the

anti-neocolonial struggle in Ghana someone has been exposed to be causing

the growth of transformation of the CPP from a socialist political

organisation into a property-owning party both in form and content. The new

identity could be described as the political imp of the perverse.

In June 2011 Paa Kwesi Nduom commissioned a so-called exploratory research

to examine his viability and visibility as a presidential candidate in 2012

elections. The so-called exploratory research arrived at a conclusion which

was already self-anticipated in August 2011. In order for the so-called

report’s conclusion to plead Nduom’s anticipated results of his viability,

interestingly, he reviews the conclusion and recommendation of the report.

In September 2011, there was news about attempts by Nduom not to contest for

the CPP flagbearship. For the avoidance of doubt, in one of my recent

articles published on ghanaweb-“*Did Kwesi Nduom take first step to leave

the CPP*” (

http://www.ghanaweb.com/GhanaHomePage/NewsArchive/artikel.php?ID=221196), I

considered reasons to his announcement as perhaps because of the outcome of

the just ended delegate’s congress, the contents of leaked US diplomatic

cables and recent uncontested fraud allegations by the out gone youth

organiser, Kabila, against him.

Contrary to his earlier announcement not to contest for the party’s

flagbearership, Nduom has just announced his intention to formally declare to

contest for the presidency in 2012 on the ticket of the Convention People’s

Party. Who does he think he is deceiving? Certainly he is deeply exposing

himself as a person with a deep self-contradictory character.

Another contradiction about him has been exposed for his public relations

gimmick in opening party offices? Even though party offices are relevant to

administering political party activities at the constituency level, what

could have actually compelled Kwesi Nduom to all of a sudden commit his

abundant wealth to the opening of party offices when he had the opportunity

to do so in all his past years in the party? Perhaps, the accusation in my

feature article on August 15, 2011 “*Samia rebuilds the CPP as Nduom

continues to destroy Nkrumaism*” where I stated that “…*after reflecting on

this part of her [Samia] statement I became exceedingly amazed about Dr. Paa

Kwesi Nduom launch for another campaign** **to become the party’s flagbearer

for 2012. How does one’s selfish desire of flag bearer leads to the building

of a well-organised political party which is representative of the broad

mass of the people? A comrade called me and said this man is probably

unscientific in politics. Perhaps he may be good in making profits but has

failed to appreciate what the CPP seeks to achieve and build in Ghana.*”(

http://www.ghanaweb.com/GhanaHomePage/NewsArchive/artikel.php?ID=216296).

A major reason for his public relations gimmick could be because he just saw

the need to contest for the party’s flagbeareship. Of course, this perhaps

answers the question most. Nduom contested in the 2008 elections but didn’t

see the need to commit such heavy cash load of money to the opening of party

offices. Having been seriously frightened by the awakening of Ghanaians over

his incredibility and imperialist manifestations he therefore resorts to the

opening of offices to neutralize the situation.

For some of us within the CPP, it would be prudent to attempt finding out

why Nduom is so desirous of becoming a flagbearer amidst the new leadership

not having organised its Central Committee meeting to consider modalities

for the intra-party presidential and parliamentary process and appointment

of all deputies to elected executives; dep. General secretary, dep.

Treasurer, dep. Women’s organiser, dep. Organiser and dep. Youth Organiser.

The attempt by Nduom, among other acts and conducts, to declare his ambition

on October 19 has indeed exposed him for his inconsistency as someone just

simply so desirous of becoming a presidential flagbearer. Since the

dissolution of the Central Committee, the newly-elected executives have not

given the go ahead to open primaries for presidential and parliamentary

results. Therefore, he must understand that CPP is more important for growth

than one’s presidential agenda. Any attempt by Dr. Nduom to launch a

campaign would be illegal and undermine the authority of the national

executives.
