President Kufuor, You've Failed!

Tue, 11 Apr 2006 Source: Poku, Kojo

This article was originally entitled ?Mr. President, your ministers have failed you?. It was revised when I asked myself: ?Where does the buck stop??

President Kufuor's star is finally fading, even in the eyes of his loyal constituents. The re-appointment of corrupt ministers, coupled with broken promises and inability to raise the standard living of Ghanaians should give pause to those who still find the ?gentle giant? qualified to even run a brick factory.

After his first term, Kufuor had the chance to assess the performance of his appointees and get rid of the incompetent, the ?square pegs? and the ?hangers on?. That was not possible, because of a minor problem. How do you get rid of relatives, childhood friends and party apparatchiks, without being isolated in future?

We all feel for the president, but there were some obvious ?disposables?. This is not an exhaustive list, but the most obvious?..

  • Dr. Richard Anane: As a minister of health, this ?married man? went to an HIV/AIDs conference using taxpayers? money and refused to use a condom. As a consequence, the Ghanaian taxpayer is paying child support and funding a billion cedi investigation. He proved beyond reasonable doubt -the fall of Ghana Airways - that he was incompetent. Mr. President, is there not a single person in Ghana who can do his job?

  • Vetting of ministers proved that Isaac Edumadze, Central Regional Minister and Shiekh Ibrahim Quaye, Greater Accra Regional Minister were in this job to dip their hands in the ?cookie jar?. To our great surprise, they retained their positions.

  • Yaw Osafo-Maafo: As minister of Finance and Economic Planning, he almost got the nation hoodwinked into taking ?419? loans - CNTCI and IFC. A finance minister who cannot distinguish a (IF)Consortium from (IF)Corporation is not fit to educate our kids. ?that is exactly what Wofa JAK did ? moved him to the education ministry.

  • Yaw Osei Ameyaw: A simple background check would have alerted the Kufuor administration that this man had committed a crime in Australia and would be an embarrassment. Nope! Kufuor was overwhelmed by the over generous reception offered him, in Australia, when he dodged the Independence of Ghana in 2002. He had to return the favor.

  • Christopher Ameyaw-Ekumfi: The proof of his competence is in our failed railway system. He was also almost hoodwinked into signing a fake loan.

  • Jake Obestsebi-Lamptey: A Ghanaian once said ?Even those who are sleeping in Ghana know that Jake is not doing anything but this NPP government has given him the second chance.?

  • Nyaho Tamakloe: A catastrophic failure at the Ghana Football Association has been rewarded with an ambassadorial ship. Reason. He shouts the loudest

  • Alhaji Moctar Bamba: As Deputy Minister for Presidential Affairs, he was alleged to be involved in the forgery of signatures of ministers of state on letterheads originating from the President's office. He was never prosecuted and even plans to run for parliamentary position on the president?s party ticket.

  • J. H. Mensah: If you don?t agree with the above names, you have to concur with me on this. The whole country keeps asking for his job description, but it seems our dear president does not even know.
We have a leadership that is either oblivious of what is going on or is incapable of dealing with it. The president has turned to lying to shaw up support. He lies about of income per capita, oil-gas finds, economy etc The frauds and deceptions are unraveling every day and cascading truths are forcing the ?Kufuorviks? to do more of what they do best: SPIN!!!

As if the spinning was not enough, the government has hired newspaper editors to do their bidding - to promote the administration.

Here is the dishonorable list (biggest liars first): Daily Guide, Crusading Guide, Accra Daily Mail, Ghana Broadcasting Cooperation, Statesman, Daily Graphic

An advice to the media: Don?t waste your time; a good agenda ought to be able to stand on its own two feet.

Meanwhile, Kufuor's party is ripping itself apart over an airline company that rents a SINGLE aircraft on a single route, a direct result of his own failure to rid himself of incompetent people.

Historians will one day marvel how a group of Arrogant, Bigheaded, Corrupt, Disrespectful, Egoistic, Fanatical, Greedy, HIPC, Incompetent, Jealous, Kleptomaniac, Lazy, Melodramatic, Nepotistic, Opportunist, Pathetic, Quixotic, Rawlings-bashing, Short-sighted, Tribalistic, Useless, Vengeful, Wasteful, Xenophobic, Yobish, Zombies (wow, I used all the alphabets) were able to take a country of 20 million people for a rough bumpy ride to nowhere.
