Sacrificing Journalism on the alter of an intolerant government

In Ghana what we now know to be Democracy to a large extent was fought for by very many well meaning Ghanaians key amongst them being Journalists. It does appear that under this NPP Government that freedom which media houses enjoyed and have been enjoying is fast depleting under the watchful eyes of The president and if care is not observed we shall be stifled into opposition as it appears to be the case now.

This Akufo-Addo Government is the most intolerant of criticisms of it’s work by the media as well as Ghanaians. It is now becoming an impossibility for one when genuinely pregnant with concerns about this Governments policies to voice them out all because the state shall release all of its Arsenals on you.

Let me be quick to add that the over polarized nature of some journalists in this country in the very foreseeable future will be a collaborative force in plunging this country into chaos.

Journalists of today, most of them, think of their stomachs first before the truth and have been bought wholly by political parties which have made them lose their sense of dignity. In our attempt to engage in selfish acts it really has a retrogressive consequence aimed at destroying the very foundations of our democracy.

Ghanaians must begin to put themselves out as people who are in the position to defend that which was fought for and won by our forebears. We cannot continue to sit aloof and watch unquestioned the discrepancies demonstrated quite clearly by this administration in their governance and its attending attempt to gag the media from speaking.

I was born in Ghana and so shall I die here but I don’t want to die in a country that is filled with anarchy arising from the intolerance of an otherwise “democratic” government.

Enough is enough.

This Government MUST get to work and leave the media to do its work!. Gagging the media is tantamount to dictatorship and that is not the principle that defines us a people.

Ghana must win!.

Happy Republican day.
