Accra, May 27, GNA- The Socialist Forum, a political pressure group, on the occasion of African Liberation Day, called on the progressive forces to work within the framework of socialism to lead the Continent to social justice, democracy and prosperity of all the people's of Africa. A statement signed by Mr. Kwesi Pratt Jr., a Convener of the Forum in Accra said, "It is now time for the African people to organize as never before for the success of the second liberation struggle, which must of, necessity, aim at the removal of neo-colonial leaders from power and their replacement by progressive regimes."
The statement said, despite Africa having more than 40 per cent of the world's resources, its people could be counted among the world's poorest people. This situation is the direct result of the collaboration between the current African leaders and their masters in the West against the legitimate interests and aspirations of the people.
The Socialist Forum said the unity of the progressive forces in Africa was an imperative for the decisive victory in the second liberation struggle
of Africa, and it was also important for the forces of progress to come to the realization that economic and political integration of Africa within the framework of socialism was the only path which could lead to social justice, democracy and prosperity for all people's Africa. The pressure group noted the significant victories of the forces of national liberation over the last 50 years, culminating in the achievement of national independence for 52 countries on the continent but said victories had not resulted in the liberation of the African people from economic strangulation and domination by former empires. The Socialist Forum saluted the leaders of the first liberation struggle, especially, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, for their fortitude, foresight and the dedication to the cause of liberty.
