The Sustainable Enterprise and Capacity Building Initiative (SENCAB), an NGO based in Ghana with a coordination centre in Germany, in collaboration with the Deutsche Umwelt Hilfe- Germany, has initiated the process of supporting rural enterprise capacity building in Akutuase in the Western region of Ghana.

In a two-day follow - up event rounding up an introductory workshop phase, 45 women entrepreneurs were taken through a series of sensitization processes supporting the practice of sustainable organic and ecological entrepreneurial practices.

The aim of the workshop was to build the capacities of women entrepreneurs in their local engagements for sustainable livelihoods and stable incomes. This formed part of a project being implemented by SENCAB towards building capacities of civil society bodies at the rural level.

The Executive Director of SENCAB, Dr. Sophia Akushie - Wittmann, in her opening remarks, urged the participants to concentrate on reaping benefits accrued from education and skills training opportunities offered towards building stable blocks in empowering rural civil society. In her address, she reiterated the challenges faced by enterprise groups within the community, and further emphasized the value of a strengthened rural entreprenuerial base, urging beneficiaries to strive towards supporting the local economy and improving market opportunities through organic and ecologically friendly cultivation and processing practices.

Madam Philomena Nimo, leader of the women’s group, on her part, thanked SENCAB for the opportunity offered and encouraged members to recognize the session as an opening towards improving their capacities.

Dr. Akushie-Wittmann concluded by noting that the workshop served as further paving the way towards engaging rural civil society in strengthening its base.
