THE NPP: A Dirty Political Party

The NPP party is confident of an easy electoral victory come 2012. They see a wounded president, and they're ready for the kill. They are leaving, this time, no stone unturned.

The party is vigorously campaigning with a sense of emergency. Mills, they're convinced, doesn't stand a chance. After all, what has Mills achieved thus far since becoming the president? Well, it's true that Mills hasn't done what he did set out to do. He promised, if I recall, a lot of things during his campaign for the presidency. Unfortunately, some of these promises have yet to see the light of day. With less than two years to go--it's becoming more apparent that he wont be able to make it. But then, I think it would be very inappropriate for anyone to call the president a failure. Simply because; he inherited an economy at a time, when most economies were crumbling due to the global economic recession. Also, one shouldn't forget to remember that the NPP party more or less left Ghana bankrupt. Hence, the IMF and the World Bank to the rescue. Undoubtedly, lots of monies were made during the NPP stewardship of this country. The question is; where did it all go?

The answer to this very question should make it all clear why the NPP party isn't fit to rule. The NPP party, obviously, manages wealth poorly. At present, Ghana's political landscape is in the hands of three political parties. Namely; the NDC, NPP and CPP. I would have to say that the CPP is the most sharpest political party of them all. Mind you, this confession is coming from me--a once staunch supporter of the ruling party. Undoubtedly, Paa Kwesi Nduom of the CPP party is the most wittiest politician in Ghana today. This man simply knows what he is talking about. I have heard him on numerous occasions communicating his ideas to the masses. His socio-economic ideas, I must confess, are simply brilliant. Paa Kwesi Nduom, I believe, deserves the presidency. Sadly, in Ghana, elections don't favor those with ideas--it favor those with no ideas. Don't ask me, why? It's just the way it is--Ghanaians are very funny people. You see, they don't know what they want. So, it's very easy to satisfy them with anything--even if its nothing. Mind you, to know what you want, is also to make a demand until the demand is satisfied.

Whilst the various political parties in Ghana are striving for tribal cohesion--the NPP party, on the other hand, has become synonymous to tribalism. The sole purpose of this all Akan political party is to realize some sort of an Akan hegemony in Ghana. You see, the Akans believe that Ghana belongs to them. They have this sick mentality that they are superior to all the various tribes in Ghana. According to them, if you are not an Akan--then it means that you're not from Ghana. The NPP party came into existence with the intent to promote the interests of Akans. Mind you, most members of the NPP party are wealthy Akans, who feel that Rawlings did them wrong during his tenure. They also believe that Rawlings is an illegitimate Ghanaian, who had no right to rule Ghana whatsoever. Hence, their bitterness, rage, hatred, and contempt towards to the man. According to the Akans, only a person of an Akan heritage should be deemed fit to rule Ghana. In fact, most members of the NPP party think that the NDC party is for Zongos. Meaning; a political party for Ghana's second and third class citizens--Ghana's inferior citizens.

In fact, the sheer arrogance of the NPP party is really sickening. By far, this is the only political party in Ghana of Akans, by Akans, and for Akans. To tell the truth, I am glad for the arrival of Rawlings on Ghana's political scene. Rawlings made it possible for non Akans to have a voice in our society. The socio-economic privileges, which hitherto had been reserved for Akans, became available to all during and after Rawlings's era. Today, non Akans are occupying important positions in our country. They are no longer shit carriers, street-cleaners, and watchmen. Also, the Akans aren't bossing them around like before. Posterity would, for sure, commend Rawlings for this. In conclusion, if Ghana is to progress as a country, in which tribe doesn't matter--then the NPP party must be left behind for good. It's a no good dirty political party, which also manages wealth poorly.
