The Birth Of A New Ghana

There comes a time-a distinctive moment in the life of every nation, when that particular nation has to stop to re-access itself. There is no doubt that Ghana has indeed come a long way after her independence. But there is so much work left to do, so much dreams left to dream, and not enough time to make them real. We have not even achieved a quarter of what we originally intended with our independence. The promises which we made to one another in days gone by remain unfulfilled. The scepter of hope, deliverance and possibility, which we once held firmly in our grips has fallen aground. The mighty black stars which our ancestors planted in the heavens for our guidance continue to shine, only we don't see them. The messengers may have left, but their words of wisdom still echo in our ears. Their radiant lights still shine through. Who dares to put their words and thoughts into action? we ask. Who dares to carry on from where they left? Who is brave enough to say I'm ready-so send me? Who else is there to send? Could it be you or could it be me?

Ghana has slowly evolved into a nation bankrupt of any creative political ideas, which could propel the country to great heights. Furthermore, the nation's politics isn't no longer driven by actions, but rather by mere words. We have elected politicians who are simply not capable of identifying themselves with the needs of the people. And therefore, aren't capable of satisfying those needs-whatever those needs might be. The people themselves also seem to be at lost, and ignorant to their own wants and needs. As a result of this, the nation's politics, which should be people centered find itself more or less non aligned with the precise wants and needs of the people. As much as the country needs creative ideas, determination, and sound political agenda's to steer it towards a brighter horizon, it also needs people who wouldn't look on idly while politicians take them and the country for granted. True politics should be of the people, by the people, for the people- and has to be kept as such.

The birth of a new Ghana is at hand. However, in other for it to happen, the old ways of thinking and doing things must be brought to an end. The counter-productive ways, which have stagnated the socio-economic growth of our present Ghana must cease to exist. This time around Ghana and her people must be wiling to sacrifice. Ghana and her people must be willing, and able to work together for one common purpose- one common goal. The traitors within their gates and walls must be exposed for all to see. Their ever reliance on foreign hand-outs to feed themselves, and their children should be banished. The sheer display of helplessness, which they as a people have hitherto displayed for all the rest of the world to see must end. Ghana is not helpless, and there was never a time when she was. Ghanaians are proud people, people apart, people of hope, people of the living, and they are alive with their destiny in hand.

See, the black stars are aligning themselves in the heavens again-a new day is dawning. The land is shifting. I hear whisperings coming from the east of the sun-west of the moon. Something new is about to unfold-something spectacular is about to happen. Dr Nkrumah dreams which were made to die shall live again. Ghana and her people shall remember who they are as opposed to who they are not. For once and forever more they will appreciate each others beauty-each others glory and essence. Perhaps this time, Ghana and her royal children would know the meaning of greatness, and aspire to it.
