The Elephant Is Causing An Upset In NDC Strongholds

Mon, 5 Mar 2012 Source: Kabu, Solomon

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) led by the flag bearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is poised and focused to take the good people of Ghana out of the shambolic governance of the Mills government when given the mandate.

It is very instructive to note that the ruling NDC government is losing it grips in their strongholds i.e. Volta Region, the three Northern Regions and the Ga-Adangbe areas (Ada, Sege, Ningo-Prampram, etc). The despondency among our people in those areas is sad to say the least.

A distinguished woman and a mother, Mrs. Atsupe Gorleku Quarshie, NPP parliamentary candidate for the Ada Constituency is prepared to lead the constituency to higher heights.

I have had the opportunity to talk to some youths in the constituency, and they were mostly members and sympathiser of the NDC and they were disgruntled. The Ada Constituency has always been a stronghold of the NDC; nevertheless the NDC has taken the people of Ada for granted. And, like other strongholds of the NDC, the party uses the people for electioneering capital and damps them after getting their mandate. This is a painful truth.

My question is simple. What significant improvement can my people in the Ga-Adangbe areas, the Volta Region and the three Northern Regions show for after persistently voting for the NDC? Let us soberly ponder over this. Mrs. Atsupe Gorleku Quarshie and, the good people of Ada Constituency are telling the ruling NDC, enough is enough!

It is a truism that the Parliamentarian is not an agent of development. However, we must recognize that the Member of Parliament (MP) was voted for by his/her constituents and the plights of the constituents must be his/her plights. Mrs. Gorleku Quarshie says, God-willing when she is voted for as MP of Ada Constituency, apart from the three basic functions of the MP which are: Deliberation of issues, oversight responsibility and law-making. She will also ensure that Ada Constituency is not left behind in the developmental agenda of the country.

The NPP and Mrs. Gorleku Quarshie are not calling for a mere change of the voting pattern in the Ada Constituency, but she is coming out with clear programmes that will enhance the image of Ada.

Her vision for Ada Constituency is impressive. I will briefly share few salient points with you and why we need to support Mrs. Gorleku Quarshie and Nana Addo for the parliamentary and presidential elections respectively come December 7, 2012.

Her plans for the Ada Constituency among other things will focus mainly on; Agriculture and Education. And strategically, job creation will be pivotal in each of her core programmes.

AGRICULTURE: Since the people of Ada are mainly into farming and fishing, Mrs. Gorleku Quarshie says, she will make credit accessible to farmers and to modernise agriculture in Ada. Fertilisers will also be subsidise for farmers. She will also use her influence to lobby for crop storage infrastructure and a ready market for their produce.

The New Patriotic Party, led by Nana Akufo-Addo has promised to bring back the Ministry for Fisheries. Mrs Gorleku Quarshie recognises the importance of the fisheries industry and has promised to support fisher folks for the growth of Ada.

Ada Constituency is relatively a rural community and there are vast fallow lands and she is worried about unemployment in Ada. Hence, when she is given the opportunity to lead the constituency, agriculture she says, will be attractive to the youth especially.

The NPP and the people of Ada led by Mrs. Gorleku Quarshie, if voted for will improve the agriculture sector to contribute enormously to lifting of the current GDP of 39 % in the agriculture sector to an appreciable level.

EDUCATION: Mrs. Gorleku Quarshie believes in human development because it contributes to a prosperous community. She is in tune with Nana Addo’s promise to make Senior High School education free and a right of all citizens, including the people of Ada.

Vocation and Skills training is also a priority, and she will accord education the importance in the constituency. This is another way of equipping the youth for self-employment.

It is also significant to note that in accordance with Nana Addo’s new vision he promised to revive the crippling salt industry. There are large deposits of salt in the Songor Lagoon and Mrs. Gorleku Quarshie will ensure that the people of Ada especially the youth benefits from it. We know salt is also needed for oil exploration. The NPP will lead a conscious effort in expanding and solving the problems associated with our salt industry.

I personally believe with a purposeful action in spurring industrialisation of our salt, we can even export our salt to Nigeria and other oil countries for their domestic and exploratory purposes.

And for this and many plans to materialise it will require a competent and focused leader to champion this agenda of making life better for the people of Ada and Ghana. This is the leadership Mrs. Gorleku Quarshie and Nana Addo will bring to bear when they are given the nod to lead Ada and Ghana respectively. Our calm mother, affable, result oriented and first lady in-waiting, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo is a proud and distinguished woman from the Ga-Adangbe area and we all need to support her realise her dream of empowering women and protecting the vulnerable in society.

I want to use this opportunity to call on the good people of Ada, those in the cities and those outside the shores of Ghana to get involved in prosecuting an effective campaign and massive grass root mobilisation to ensure that Mrs. Gorleku Quarshie wins the seat for the NPP. Nana Addo’s votes in the Ga-Adangbe areas must be maximise to enhance his smooth victory in December 7, 2012.

Those of us in the cities and outside the country should encourage our families and friends in the rural communities especially to be involved in the upcoming biometric registrations. The registration processes to the declaration of results are very important in the electoral fortunes of the great NPP. And no stone should be left unturned. Please, let us be vigilant in the electoral processes right from the registrations to the final declaration of results. Nana Addo needs a massive increase in the strongholds of the NDC strongholds to enhance his victory so that he will lead the industrialisation and meaningful transformation of the economic structure of Ghana.

Mrs. Atsupe Gorleku Quarshie and Nana Akufo-Addo are saying we should change to move Ada and Ghana forward. And they are determined to create a society of aspirations and opportunities for the people of Ada and Ghana as a whole.

Let us all make a prudent decision come December 7, 2012 in reposing confidence in Mrs. Atsupe Gorleku Quarshie as MP for Ada Constituency and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for President of the Republic of Ghana. God bless us all.
