A popular maxim goes, “The enemies of my friends are my enemies” However, the French will rather have it this way, “Les amis de mes amis sont mes amis” (the friends of my friends are my friends). Before expressing my motive about this write-up, let me first define the words, enemy, friend and rival.
• An enemy is a person who hates, opposes, or fosters harmful designs against another • A friend is a person known well to another and regarded with liking, affection, and loyalty • A rival is one who attempts to equal or surpass another, or who pursues the same object as another; a competitor.
For the sake of vivid explanation, let me put it bluntly across that Nana Akufo Addo Dankwah, the biblical David or Joseph of our time is my friend. Therefore, whoever has openly declared their enmity, or harbour animosity, towards him, is in a sense my enemy. He is an embodiment of peace, honesty, and unity. He is the ray of hope for the suffering Ghanaian masses that have presently lost all hope in our politicians who are as callous as they are insatiably corrupt and greedy.
Why should anyone senselessly hating this man of incorruptibility not automatically become my enemy? Whoever stands in the way of prosperity to the poor in society; seeks to hold the poor in permanent relegation to the abyss of poverty where they are tormented by the lack of daily wants of life, is indeed, my enemy.
To be precise, those malevolently plotting the downfall of Nana Akufo Addo for the satisfaction of their parochial interests are not only the enemies of Nana, but also, the enemies of all concerned and discerning Ghanaians. The numerously needy and poor persons in the Ghanaian society today, see Nana Akufo Addo as the one who bears the precious, although invisible, key, to unlock the gate of prosperity, peace of mind and all the good things in life they are anxiously looking forward to. Therefore, whoever mischievously touches him, has touched the masses; poked their eyes, so to speak, and consequently, God will deal drastically with such criminals.
Anyone who accepts money from whomever, with the intention to scupper God’s intentions and purposes for Nana Akufo Addo, shall certainly sooner encounter their nemeses.
Nana wants rivals but not enemies. He has not done anything to warrant the current level of enmity towards him, both from within the NPP and the NDC. I understand the top echelon of the NPP National Executives has for all unexplained but selfish and stupid reasons become the enemies of Nana Addo. Such persons will themselves be ensnarled by their evil deeds; mark my words in indelible ink on the side of your wall where the rain never falls.
In life, one needs rivals (competitors) to help bring out the best in them. Without accepting new challenges, through rivalry probably, one’s aspirations to attain the best in life will fall flat through at some point in time. The more one is contested genuinely for a position or for anything you can think of, the better the best in them comes out to help them succeed in such pursued enterprises. With this in mind, Nana and all those on his side welcome competitors in the contest for the NPP flagbearer’s position. However, we do not want to see persons spearheading divisive agenda within the NPP with the aim to helping retain NDC and President Mahama in power come Election 2016.
I want to see friends who will pull their resources, strengths and good intentions together to ensure Ghana rids herself of the near-institutional corruption, selective justice and cluelessness; the conspicuous marks of the John Mahama/Arthur-Amissah NDC-led government. I would, if I had my own way, not love to see any enemies, but only rivals or friends concertedly fighting to save Ghana from the imminent socio-economic annihilation that is scarily staring us in the face.
Anyone with a secret agenda to thwart the genuine expectations of the suffering masses in Ghana, thereby helping to consciously or unconsciously retain the ongoing maladministration of the country, is an enemy of the people, an enemy of God, and they consequently stand to suffer the condemnation of God Almighty, I should think.
Better have friends and rivals than mischievous enemies! There are so many suspected enemies within the NPP. They are said to be the agents of the NDC, even though they are outwardly known NPP gurus. Many a concerned NPP member is not happy about the attitudes of former President John (Diawuo) Agyekum Kufuor, Kwabena Agyepong (NPP General Secretary), Paul Afoko (NPP Chairman), Arthur Kennedy, Kwadwo Mpianim, Dr Anane and Dr Charles Wereko-Brobbey. People are asking, could they not be the enemies of Nana Addo and hence the enemies of the people and God? “ASEM SEBE!”
The Lone Ranger from Kumawu/Asiampa has spoken his mind. Not only that, he has also turned on his fountain of overflowing wisdom. He invites all to freely drink from it to quench their thirst for wisdom. Whosoever will, may come!
I dedicate this article to all Ghanaians desirous to see Ghana truly prosper under an honest, dynamic, farsighted, selfless, dedicated and incorruptible leader.
