We live in exciting times. Exciting because things are beginning to happen again. At least we hear the correct sound bytes , at least from certain quarters. First was Samia Nkrumah extolling the virtues of her dad , the great Osagyefo . Then she came up with a workable theory for development . I read it and could feel proud the old cockerel was getting to crow again .Simple workable SOLUTIONS to our underdevelopment. Tears welled in my eyes as I read through it . The CPP is THINKING . Was that not what Kumbour was talking about . We should pay people who can THINK .
Then came the President at the UN saying it as it should . We need partners so we can be self reliant . Another of Nkrumahs catch words “Often the Western world wrongly assumes that we in Africa do not know our worth. We do. It’s not sympathy we want; it’s partnership, the ability to stand on our own feet. It’s not handouts we’re in search of; its opportunities. We have already shown that with time and the right opportunity, Africa can make it.” The new deal ? Hope and pride . But we have to have faith in ourselves . Can we?
It was at the same time the NPP as usual was tearing apart Prof Awoonor . A great son of Africa and a beacon . Some one to be emulated by the young ones. Theirs was to rejoice and trip over each one in order to out do the others as to the vitriol and venom to pour on him. Even using the name of the Almighty God .
Let us create a new standard . If you insult Ewes , Gas, Northerners or any one else you are Not a tribalist but thou must not criticize an Akan especially Asanteni for then you are a tribalist. Just imagine Akadu memsema ‘ a Denkyira nationalist”.How can some one who says she is a Denkyira Nationalist criticize an Ewe nationalist? But then Akadu is not a tribalist but Awoonor is .To my mind all those insulting Awoonor are just as guilty as he is .Let the party NPP which is “non tribal” party, elect a non Asante/Akyem as flagbearer. After all “ charity begins at home” . When did these people vote for a Presidential candidate from outside their region ? J B Danquah, Victor Owusu, William Ofori Atta, Adu Boahen, J a K Kufour, and now Nana Akufo-Addo . Voltarians voted Nkrumah, Linmann, Rawlings, Mills, and now Mahama
In the midst of it also came hope . Even Jake their other certficateless leader said this about NPP, “the vitriol with which we conduct our internal elections gives our opponents all the ammunition they need to use against us”. He added that: “Too often we find it more expedient to destroy the reputation of our NPP competitor. Please remember that you never bring down one person; you wound, that person and all his or her supporters too”. Replace some of the words of internal and you can see the nature of the NPP. Vile, vulgar, uncouth, shallow, false and lacking substance. Every day the websites and the stations are filled with such vulgarity by these people and then we wonder why are making no progress .Here is another “The legislator is reported to have alleged that Mr Kufuor in 2007 walked him out of his private residence for not backing Alan Kyeremateng’s presidential bid at the time” here is another one “my attention has been drawn to the fact that some character assassins within the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and their rented press are cooking up statements ostensibly to discredit and denigrate my reputation.” Dr Kofi Apraku . So are these the people we want in power?.
Let us read some of the words Jake wrote to the NPP .“Many are calling for reforms and rebuilding from the grass roots up. I urge caution. In my experience of the N.P.P. it is almost impossible during such times as we are in now for any suggestion to be considered rationally. Make a suggestion, and if supporters of “A” do not see how it will help their candidate, they will assume you are doing it for “B” and therefore make sure it doesn’t work, and vice versa”. THEY MAKE SURE IT DOES NOT WORK AND VICE VERSA. So as the President is raising hope and trying to motivate , he warns us of the type of opposition we have. There are hordes of them who will make sure Ghana does not succeed just to satisfy the parochial interest of the greedy and selfish NPP war lords and tribal supremacists .So we have the air waves and the websites filled with negativity to ensure Ghana does not move forward . Shakespeare said of such people ; “ Such men as are never at hearts rest , so long as they see a greater than themselves” .
When shall we have the NPP putting their shoulders to the wheel and pushing in the same direction instead of going in the opposite direction? As apostles of free enterprise why are they not creating wealth and jobs. Remember you said “ It is not the duty of government to create jobs’ courtesy, Osafo Marfo . “The private sector is the engine of growth”, you regurgitate every day. So why are you so bent on government jobs? NPP, practice what you preach. Invest and create jobs .Show the way to innovation, research, development, jobs and growth . You vilify , Nkrumah for being a communist but he created jobs . Jobs galore . Do not just shoot him down with words , just match what he did, 400+ industries , commercial farms, estate houses, roads . Do it, NPP , you make too much noise . You point fingers at people all the time . When you were trying to bomb Nkrumah to death , he still made progress. Stop being like crabs in a bucket . I listed the associates of Nkrumah . They were all achievers . All left their marks. Show us your team . We are tired of you crowing . The cockerel is for the CPP. Your negativity is too much . This because of your envy and jealousy . Let me remind of a line in the poem of Desiderata “If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time” . So NPP no one is causing your failure but your own selves buried in your negativity.
