The Head of Policy Monitoring Unit at the Presidency, Dr. Tony Aidoo who’d been out of the news for a while bounced back in his usual controversial style. This time round his focus was on Christians and tongue speaking.
Here is a portion of what he said: “can you tell me that you’re worshipping God? You’re worshipping the devil And look at the language they speak. Only mad people speak in tongues…I don’t understand it…Because if you want to speak to God, speak directly because God gave you a language, he did not give you a gibberish kind of language…that is not communicable. That I don’t understand…It is too gibberish. It cannot, it cannot represent the will of God for you to speak in a language that I, the listener, do not understand. Because the purpose of your sermon is to tell me how I can get close to God,"
The learned Doctor, per human standard, isn’t actually wrong when one takes a critical and dispassionate look at the bible. After all, the bible reveals that God does not operate by the wisdom and standard of mankind. Dr. Tony-Adoo as I’m aware of is very learned and for some of us, we might not even get to his level as hard as we try and I think it is because of such persons that God will continue to use the things we deem as foolish to confound the wise. Should God operate by human standard, then I think some of us wouldn’t really meet any of his favourable conditions.
1 Corinthians 1:27-28: ‘27But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 28And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are”
Isn’t it truly madness for one to speak in a language he himself doesn’t really understand? How do you know you’re communicating to your creator and not Satan? The fact is, to the logical mind and to the learned, it’s too mysterious and strange. To the carnal mind it really sounds stupid! To confirm this, let’s check 1 Corinthians 14:23 which states “If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?”
Let’s not forget that in Acts 2 where tongue speaking started on the Day of Pentecost, some bystanders mocked the Apostles saying they’re drunk. Acts 2:12-13: “ 12 And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this? 13Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.”
Is there any use then to attack Dr. Tony-Aidoo? Doesn’t he just confirm what’s already in the bible that we’ve been reading all this while? His position on tongue-speaking is further exposed in 1 Corinthians 1:25-26 which reads, “25Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 26For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called”. Indeed, speaking in tongues is foolishness to the learned and the wise in this world.
Dr. Tony-Aidoo’s character is further revealed in 1 Corinthians 2:14 which states, “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned”.
It’s my prayer that in God’s own time, he will reveal his wisdom, which is contrary to our natural understanding of issues to Dr. Tony-Aidoo as he occupies a very sensitive position in the current government. Thankfully, our President and the Vice-President are also ‘mad’ by Dr. Tony-Aidoo’s standard as I learnt they do speak in tongues and believe in it as well. Not them alone, but other high ranking government officials. It is therefore not shameful to be described as a ‘mad person’ by learned persons like Dr. Tony-Aidoo because I speak in tongues. It’s just a confirmation of God’s word.
Let’s use our ‘madness’ to call upon God to reveal himself to persons of Dr. Tony-Aidoo’s caliber for the sake of his glory. Especially those in sensitive positions in this country.
