What will be your life legacy?.

Tue, 29 Oct 2013 Source: Hardi, Ibrahim

Have you ever thought of what people will say about you when you have

died? I know, I am the only crazy one, please forgive me but I think it

is important. As I grew up and attended people’s funerals , I listened

with fascination to peoples’ eulogies and admired their life

accomplishments. What they accomplished, who they influenced and

who

they touched during their life on earth. Most times they left out the

unscrupulous parts, but it didn’t mean these memories were forgotten.

People still talked about them and their legacies even years later after

they were gone, dependent on their impact. Anyway, I don’t want to look

like a sadist but I just want to remind you, as you work hard to be

successful, rich and happy, remember to leave a legacy behind you. A

legacy is left and lives for a long time. Especially, if you did

something

significant for a long time and it touched people’s life. It can be positive or

negative for example, there are positive people who left respectable

legacies like Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, My hero Jerry Rawlings, Nelson Mandela,

Dr Martin Luther King, UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill etc.

There are others unforgotten for wrong reasons like the German leader Hitler

and Ugandan Leader Idi Amin among others you might know. Even so, we

don’t have to do big and great things like the above examples to leave a

legacy, but whatever we do on a daily basis influences somebody and

shapes how we will be remembered. So I urge you to reflect about it, if

you need to improve it is the high time you get your

act together.

It is important to also have a look at the great influences in your life

and the legacy they left with you. So have you maintained it if it was

treasurable?

I challenge you to do the same, maintain good legacies

that influence your life and create new ones that you would like to be

remembered with. Leave a legacy especially for your children, family

members, neighbors and colleagues at work. Also, influence the next and

future generations positively. Let them remember you for

your hard

work, balanced living, positive mind-set, generous & forgiving

heart, selflessness and support for others in need within your reach. Dr

John Maxwell book on Laws of Leadership states that ‘Your life is like a

book. The title page is your name, the preface is your introduction to

this world. The pages are a daily record of your efforts, trials,

pleasures, discouragements and achievements. Day by day your thoughts

and acts are being inscribed in your book of life. Hour by hour the

record is being made that must stand for all time. Once the word finish

must be written, let it then be said of your book that it is a record of

noble purposes, generous service and work well done. Someday people

will summarize your life with a single sentence. Pick the sentence now

that it is within your power- by the legacy you choose live by.

I dedicate this piece to a friend Paul A.A. Justice. May the Almighty God help him

in all his endeavors!!!!!!!.
