Mpraeso (E/R), June 13, GNA - The outbreak of a strange disease among students of the Mpraeso Secondary School had forced the authorities to close down the school on Friday.
About 60 students, mostly girls, who contracted the disease of vomiting and abdominal pains, were treated and discharged at the Kwahu Government Hospital at Atibie over the week.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview, the Acting Headmaster of the school, Mr James Nii Okija Dinsey, said the school authorities and the students body decided to go on their mid-term holidays last week, instead of this week to enable those, who have contacted the strange disease to go home for further treatment, since the number of students, who have contacted the disease kept on increasing by the day.
When the Medical Superintendent in-charge of the hospital, Dr Isaac Osabutey was contacted, he confirmed that a large number of students from the school reported at the hospital last week with abdominal pains and vomiting.
