WASSCE: Indiscipline exhibited by students dishear

Many factors go into the great performance of students in the so-called "grade A" schools. Among the factors is the fact that many children with high IQs congregate in those schools, thus making learning highly competitive and teaching effective.

Secondly, quite a number of the teachers in such schools are WAEC examiners. They prepare their students for the external exams along the lines of exam requirements. And their students pass very well.

That is where the difference comes in. Take the case of lower grade schools where many of the students have average or slightly lower IQs, coupled with low motivation to study, with teachers who have no WAEC examiner experience. The students cannot have targeted preparations for WAEC exams. Thus the poor performance year after year.

Government wanted students in the "low grade schools" to also have targeted preparation for WASSCE,and perform well. Unfortunately, some of them misunderstood the purpose of the exercise; thinking the past questions were going to be repeated verbatim.
