It is rather unfortunate that lots of the effusions coming from this site are from 'dead' men. Their thought patterns portray them as 'dead men walking the face of the earth'. They are like chaff which is only waiting for a spark of match to burn.
Otherwise how can a sane human being be working so hard to destroy himself, his children, his tribesmen, his country and all.
What have Asantes done to attract such hatred from such ?dead? men? Kumasi may be one of the most ethnically diverse cities in Ghana. The Ewes may have about the most thriving wood-working industry in Kumasi. I understand several other tribal chiefs sit in the the Council of the Asantehene (I stand to be corrected) There is the Fante Newtown; Ayigbe Town; several Zongoes for the different ?northern tribes? and West-African peoples, etc. I even heard recently that there was a suburb called Kotei (Obviously named after a Ga) Several prominent non-Asante Ghanaians were born, nurtured, educated and unleashed to world from Kumasi. The Busumru, Dr Dr Kofi Annan, the soft-spoken General Secretary of the United Nations (and touted to be the best so far), grew up in Kumasi.
A couple of years back, one Ayi Bonte (obviously a Ga) was voted the best farmer in Ashanti.
Ashanti has willingly given her gold, her cocoa, her lands; just like the people of the Western, Eastern, Greater Accra (their lands especially), Volta, Central , Brong-Ahafo, and indeed all the other regions; to the growth and development of Ghana.
The Asantehene sits on gold, yet travels the world to solicit 'peanuts' for his Educational Funds, which benefit all in the Ashati Region and beyond. The people of Ashanti have kept a discreet silence over the handling of their natural endowments. Not a word was heard from the Asantehene or his subjects over the recent Anglogold-Ashanti debate. It was journalists (some of whom are quick to display their Asante-hatered credentials), together with politicians who seemed to be the big voices in the debate.
Yet we all know how some groups of Ghanaians are holding on tightly to their natural resource, and yet will cry on governments daily for developmental projects (with what and whose resources?- one may ask) It is amazing that this Abdallah guy and many of his bedfellows think that they can draw a wedge between Asantes, Fantes etc.
Mr Abdallah, you and your colleagues are quick to brand people who live in the Northern, Upper-West/East as northerners. You do so mischievously when you want to sell yourselves as either deprived, want some political positions, or are spewing your hatered for Asantes.
But you are the same people, who will not want to join hands with an Andani or Abudu (depending on which side you belong) or maybe a Kokomba and Nanumba; who will not want to support a particular political appointee, not because of his/her political affiliation, but because of tribal reasons. Most of the conflicts in the north; are they between Asantes and Northers/Upper-Easterners/Upper-Westerners? Please, why don't you burry your Asante-hatred and reason for a little while.
Even in the face of the huge gulfs between different tribes and even within the same tribe, you pride calling yourselves ?northerners? Why do then do you want to separate Asantes from other ?southerners?? Why do want to separate Asantes from other Akans? Sheer mischief, sheer hatred, sheer jealously, sheer madness; nothing else but pure madness!!
What grows nations among other factors, is reasonable and hard-working people, not people who will fight and kill themselves, and blame others, whose only crime is trying to separate them.
Ghana elected Dr Hilla Limann as her first northern President in 1979. Some of our beloved ?northern? brothers (probably in the same class as Abdallah) teamed up with Jerry John Rawlings and overthrew him in 1981. What did he do to these ?northerners? after his coup? What did he do to ?northern? officers in the Ghana army after the overthrow of Limann?
Unfortunately all those who were involved with the murder of the Akan judges and the military officer, with the exception of the foolhardy Amartey Quaye were Ewes. Yet they went about their dastardly act in northern smogs. What do you think they were trying to portray? This does not make Ewes haters of Akans, but whatever led to this, it is a fact of history. We must learn the lessons and not repeat it.
Jerry John Rawlings had the opportunity twice to appoint a Vice-Presidential candidate- did he did not appoint a ?northerner??
When he was leaving office, one may think that because he overthrew a ?northerner?, he would, in trying to appease the ?northerners? appoint one as his successor. Did he? Since he has been out of power, has he been interested in seeing a ?northerner? become the Presidential candidate?
Instead he tells his ?northern devotees? that the NPP imprisoned Ibrahim Adam, the former Deputy Minister of Agriculture, because they were afraid of him becoming the Vice-Presidential candidate for the 2004 elections (I stand for correction) If he did say that, my question: ?Where was Ibrahim Adam when Rwalings appointed Arkaah and Prof Mills as Vice-Presidents respectively?? Maybe Abdallah has an answer or?
As someone had aptly pointed out, most of the thuggery unleashed by the NDC in power and out of power on Ghanaians were/are perpetrated almost always by people of ?northern? extraction living in the Zongoes or from Tamale or Bawku. The picture this seems to paint, unfortunately, is that; ?without ?northerners?, there may not be or there would be fewer such acts in Ghana?. Is this a good tag to bear- Abdallah?
There are several very fine, well educated, humane, productive and well-meaning ?northerners? in our dear country. But unfortunately, there is this bunch, who have yielded themselves to any evil minded politician, lawless chieftain or potential terrorists for diabolical and nation wrecking purposes- and Abdallah ranks amongst the leaders.
It is true that our history is replete with such barbaric acts by maybe all the tribes. But whiles many are working very hard to shirk and repudiate it, others are working very hard to prove that barbarism is heroism; being a nation wrecker is a virtue; spewing death and destruction is a good legacy for one?s offspring! These are indeed ?dead? men and ?dead? minds. Interestingly many of them clothe themselves with religious robes, and will not miss any religious call. What a death, what a shame!!!
Unfortunately most of these ?dead? men presume to be NDC supporters (the party has lots of very decent Ghanaians who are working very hard to strip it of its violent past and posturing). Very sad for a party which has Jerry Rawlings, who ruled Ghana for 20 years as its foundation and standard bearer.
Jerry Rawlings may still be the most crowd pulling politician in Ghana today- this is undisputable. But the Devil is also a crowd puller. Hitler was a crowd puller. Can you imagine what may happen if Osama Bin Laden should land at JFK Airport today?
You may gather the people alright. But what do you represent? What do you tell them? What do your supporters represent? Gather them for what purpose?
Abdalla, Ghana is a very fine country. Remember your idol Rawlings is married to an Asante? Remember there are Asantes in the NDC? Remember there are Akans in the NDC? Remember Asante is an Akan tribe? Remember the Akans form very nearly 50% of Ghana?s population? Remember the NPP has several very fine ?northerners?? Remember the sitting Vice President of Ghana is a ?northerner?? I hope you and your fellow ?dead? minds are not wishing same for Vice-President Aliu, as you did for Limann.
I will want to prophesy to you: ?Ghana shall remain a united country. The good and law- abiding Dagombas, Asantes, Frafras, Ewes, Gas, Brongs, Fantes, Nzemas, Dagartis, etc. etc., are more than the chaotic minds like yours, and will continue working together to build a great Ghana. A Ghana that can continue to accommodate even ?dead? people like you and your kind? God have mercy on these demonic and evil minded hoards.
