Holland-based striker Matthew Amoah has showed that he still has plenty to offer as a forward for Ghana.
The 26-year-old has not been invited to play for the Black Stars since last year’s friendly against Togo in London.
Amoah was an instrumental figure as Ghana clinched its maiden World Cup place two years ago, scoring in three consecutive qualifying matches.
Even though he secured a big move to Germany by signing for Borussia Dortmund in January 2006 from Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem, an ankle injury prevented him from giving off his best.
He could only manage eight first-team appearances as he failed to score in his 18 months at the club.
Having fully recovered from the injury, he opted to quit the Bundesliga for a return to the Dutch Eredivisie by signing for NAC Breda.
Amoah seems to have rediscovered his scoring touch as he helped NAC Breda to pick up their first points of the season after three rounds of matches.
His two goals with ten minutes remaining helped his team to a convincing 4-1 win over Heracles Almelo on Saturday.
Some players blame national team coaches and even administrators when they are left out of the Black Stars because of loss of form.
But Amoah was honest enough to own up to his loss of form when he was left out of the Black Stars.
“I was injured and I lost my position in the team but we must know that Black Stars is not for me alone,” Amoah told GFA News.
Now that he seems to have returned to his scoring ways he can surely set his sights on a return to the national team to fight for a place.
A consistent performance like Saturday’s should guarantee him a place in the 2008 African Cup of Nations squad.
